how to design an edible landscape: unleash your inner gardenerJoyce Hostyn
Whether you have a tiny yard or a large lot, you can have a beautiful garden and eat it too! Edible landscapes filled with trees, shrubs, berries and perennial vegetables are a beautiful, sustainable method of growing food for yourself, increasing biodiversity, and attracting birds.
The Permaculture Home Garden is a type of garden that is designed using permaculture principles. Permaculture is a set of design principles that focuses on creating sustainable and self-sufficient systems that work with nature rather than against it. The goal of a permaculture home garden is to create a diverse and resilient ecosystem that produces food, fiber, and other resources while improving soil health, conserving water, and supporting biodiversity.
The Pure Land Foundation Garden designed by Fernando Gonzalez has scooped a coveted Silver-Gilt medal at this year’s outstanding RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
On receiving the award Gonzalez said: “I am very happy that the RHS judges have recognised the work and dedication that went into creating the Pure Land Foundation Garden. It has been a labour of love and to obtain a Silver-Gilt medal is a testament to the dedication of my team. I would also like to thank our sponsor, Bruno Wang, who, through the the Pure Land Foundation made this garden possible.”
The garden was inspired by the dramatic topography of the Chinese landscape, with its great mountains and river valleys, and the sophisticated concept of nature found in traditional gardens and scroll paintings, where rocks and plantings were intended to evoke a wild landscape. Traditional Chinese gardens were places where art, nature and ideas were integrated perfectly to create a harmonious natural setting for serene contemplation and meditation. They became the focus of an alternative lifestyle that celebrated tranquillity and a strong belief in a sense of unity between nature and human culture. The Pure Land Foundation Garden is a contemporary interpretation of the flowing shapes found in such gardens and aims to evoke a sense of wellbeing and positive energy by reconnecting our spirituality with nature.
For Fernando, the garden offers a new and highly visual way of experiencing space by using free flowing lines and multiple viewpoints to create a pictorial space where colour, texture and spatial form blend rhythmically. The result, he hopes, is a scene of untamed beauty, a small wilderness that ebbs and flows like an ancient river.
Mr Bruno Wang, Founder of the Pure Land Foundation, was delighted with how the finished garden looked. Upon being told how the Garden had been received by the RHS judges, Mr Wang said: “The Pure Land Foundation Garden is an enchanting creation that combines traditional Chinese gardens with state-of-the-art technology, materials and techniques. This fusion of old and new was perfectly realised to create a space of great harmony, peace and contemplation. I am delighted that this extraordinary yet effortless creation, the product of Fernando Gonzalez’s incredible vision and skill, has been recognised by this year’s judges.”

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Press Release Les Parfums d\'Isabelle
1. PRESS RELEASE
7TH OCTOBER 2009
UK-based French natural perfumery demonstrates its commitment to environmental
issues with eco-friendly and sustainable packaging that blooms into wild flowers
Les Parfums d’Isabelle, a small UK-based
natural perfumery from East Yorkshire is proving
that they take the environmental issues even
more seriously by packaging their perfume
bottles in seeded boxes which are Earth friendly
because they are made from renewable
resources and 100% biodegradable. Since they
are embedded with wildflower seeds, these can
be planted in a garden and will bloom with wild
flowers such as Bird's Eye, Clarkia, Black Eyed
Susan, Poppy, Catchfly, Black orchid or Snap
Dragon.
‘What can be more eco-friendly and ethical than
a package intended to go back in the Earth and
not based on cutting trees and destroying
forests’ says Isabelle Gellé, the creative
perfumer and owner of Les Parfums d’Isabelle
natural fragrances. Our bottles are reusable and refillable and we are now really happy to
present our perfumes in those beautiful Earth friendly boxes which also means that our clients
will remember us when the flowers grow. Not only do we help them rediscover the essence of
Nature but also to participate with no efforts on their part to the recycling and the protection of
the ecosystem.’
The unique packaging is based on a patented technology from Canada and although the
process application is becoming hugely popular among industries wanting to demonstrate
their commitment to the green movement, very few cosmetic and personal care companies
use it in the UK. By showing such a commitment to the green issues, Les Parfums d’Isabelle
also wants to show that as a small eco-friendly business, they go the extra mile to prove that
their claim of ‘100% natural collection’ is true all the way.
‘I have no doubt that the UK will join the green packaging trend soon. For the moment, the
boxes are imported from the United States as we could not find any company producing them
in the UK or Europe. We hope some printing company will realise the strong interest of
offering this product so that we reduce our carbon footprint even more by purchasing them
locally’.
The seeded boxes will contain the 30 ml reusable glass bottles from Isabelle Gellé’s natural
perfume collection with instructions on how to plant the box and grow the flowers. The box
itself is a memorable gift and it adds a special touch to that special occasion.
