Miki Sawada founded "Elizabeth Thunder's Home" in Japan after World War II to care for racially mixed children who had been abandoned. She housed and educated over 2,000 children there. Later, she purchased land to establish a farm and provide for the children's independence. The orphanage she established is still in operation today, caring for 100 children ages 2 to 18. Sawada converted to Christianity and remained healthy so she could continue visiting children who had been adopted all around the world. She saved more than 2,000 children and brought them into her family with the support of her husband and extended family.

The Dalton family originated from Missouri and Oklahoma, with 13 of 15 children surviving to adulthood. Bob Dalton wanted to outdo Jesse James' notoriety, so in 1892 he led the Dalton Gang in attempting to simultaneously rob two banks in broad daylight in Coffeyville, Kansas. Disguised with fake beards, the Dalton Gang was still recognized by the townspeople as violence ensued.

Later, she attended Earlham College where she found success in writing, music, and public speaking. Throughout her life, she wrote about preserving Native American culture and traditions. She was a founding member of the Society of American Indians, which advocated for Native American rights.

Thomas Bennett and Ann Lacey Bennett were English pioneers who immigrated to America and Utah in the 1800s. Thomas was born in 1815 in England and Ann was born in 1819, also in England. They were married in 1839 and had seven children in England before immigrating. Thomas came to America first in 1857 to prepare for the family, working and saving money. Their son William joined him in 1860. In 1861, Ann and the remaining children immigrated and traveled by train and wagon to Utah to reunite with Thomas. Ann and Thomas helped establish settlements in Utah and Idaho and contributed to their communities until Thomas' death in 1881 and Ann's in 1907.

Caleb Clark Baldwin & Ann Eliza Robinson
Caleb Clark Baldwin and Ann Eliza Robinson Baldwin were early members of the Latter Day Saint movement. They were married in 1837 in Far West, Missouri and had nine children together before Ann passed away in 1873 in Utah. Caleb and the family followed the main body of Mormons from Missouri to Nauvoo, Illinois and then to the Salt Lake Valley in Utah in 1852. After Ann's death, Caleb married Jane Martha Taylor Riley in 1877 in Utah, where he lived until passing away in 1905.

This led Parliament to replace James II with the Protestant William and Mary in the Bloodless Revolution of 1688, establishing Parliament as more powerful than the monarchy.
The reformation
The Reformation began in the 1500s led by reformers such as Martin Luther, John Calvin, and King Henry VIII who challenged the authority and teachings of the Catholic Church. Luther posted his 95 Theses criticizing the Church in 1517 which sparked the Protestant Reformation. The printing press helped spread Protestant ideas. The Counter Reformation was launched by the Catholic Church including through the Jesuits and the Council of Trent to combat heresy and reform the Church. This led to a divided Europe and era of religious wars between Protestant and Catholic states.
Restoration Theatre - Group A
After Charles I was overthrown during the English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell banned theatre between 1642-1660 due to its association with the monarchy and his Puritan beliefs. When Charles II was restored as king in 1660, theatre needed to be revived as actors had dispersed during its ban. Thomas Killigrew and William Davenant were tasked with reviving theatre and opened new playhouses, with Davenant pioneering the use of scenery and staging innovations from Europe that made his productions more popular. Women also began performing on stage during this time as it had become acceptable based on European precedents.

The Minnie Hill Palmer Story
The Hill-Palmer House, named to the National Register of Historic Places as the only remaining homestead cottage and surrounding gardens in the San Fernando Valley, was built about 1911 by James David and Rhoda Jane Enlow Hill.
In 1974 it was named Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #133, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
Located within the Homestead Acre in Chatsworth Park South, the property is owned by the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation and Parks, with the Chatsworth Historical Society as conservators.
The house, gardens and Chatsworth Museum is open for tours from 1-4 p.m. the first Sunday of every month.

Mary Draper Ingles found refuge in Bedford County, Virginia in the 1750s after being captured by Shawnee Native Americans and escaping. She was the mother of two sons still held captive. Records show she and her husband William Ingles later established a home called Ingleside in the area, and their descendants also named homes after their family. Historians still have many unanswered questions about Mary Ingles' ordeal and life after escaping captivity.

Mary Draper Ingles was taken captive by Shawnee Native Americans in 1755 after their attack on Draper's Meadow in Virginia (now Blacksburg, VA). They likely named their Bedford County home "Ingleside" as later descendants also named their homes. Mary and William had several children, though the fates of some are unknown such as what happened to their son George. - 5. Around 1891, 17 year old Mary Will Meets a 25 year old Lumberjack named John Miles On Palm Sunday April 10, 1892 Mary age 18 and John Miles age 26 jumped the Broom in Marion, LA. They stayed in Marion and had two children. Around 1895 they moved to Arkansas, John’s home.
- 6. The Return Home Upon their return from Arkansas nine years later and three additional children, John and Mary purchase land in Marion in 1904. They bought 120 acres for $150.00.
- 7. Three years after they bought the land, in 1907 there was a Boll Weevil infestation. A tiny insect pest devastated their cotton fields and forced farmers like John to pursue mixed farming and manufacturing. John and Mary had seven children to support and in need of income.
