Modugno is a town of 37,036 inhabitants located near Bari, Italy. Founded during the Middle Ages under Byzantine rule, Modugno suffered domination by the Normans and Swabians and was part of a feud admitted to the Archbishops of Bari. The name Modugno is derived from "Medunium," meaning "in the middle," or from a castle called "la Motta" located in the center of the ancient town. Modugno's coat of arms features a thistle.
