2. EXPOSITION 12 month time span University Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center Main characters- Vivian Bearing, Harvey Kelekian, Jason Possner, Susie Monahan, E.m. Ashford, and Mr. Bearing Vivian Bearing is the protagonist. She is an english professor and is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The point at which Vivian tells the audience about herself is the event before the inciting incident.
3. INCITING INCIDENT Vivian pulls out her IV once she explains herself to audience. She has two hours to live.
4. Conflict Vivian explains herself to the audience and speaks to them very intimately and with loads of passion, for she is dying soon.
5. Rising Action Vivian recalls two stories that happened in her life in the past. One was the first time she heard she had cancer and the second was when she had to re-write a poetry paper when she was attending school.
6. Climax She tells the audience about her nurse Susie. Susie is always there for her when she needs it and especially when she’s in tons of pain, Susie always makes it better. E.M. is the only person to pay her a visit just before her death. Ashford and Vivian read a book together. The following day, Vivian dies of cardiac arrest. Posner asks for a code team; he needs her to continue research
7. Falling Action and Denoument Susie tries to block the code team from Vivian. Jason falls in front of the code team and cries. Vivian removes her gown and goes center stage as the lights dim and fade out.
8. Vivian I would classify Vivian as a dynamic character. She is very shy and personal in the beginning of the play and doesn’t open up very much. But by the end, opens up to Susie and creates a strong bond with her. Knowing she is dying very soon, she opens up about her life to the audience and of her past experiences.
