1. Objectives
• Conduct skate lesson to youth (12 – 21 years
old) by emphasizing the safety and proper way
of skating.
• Train the youth become skate athlete to take
part in the National/ International
Competition.
2. Basic Foundation Skill
Standing up
Step 1: From a kneeling position, place both hands on the ground
Step 2: Raise one foot to rest on the four wheels of the skate
Step 3: Push up and place the other leg to form a V shape
Step 4: Place both hands on the knees
3. Basic Foundation Skill
Falling down
Step 1: Bend knees forward towards the ground as far as possible
Step 2: Hands in front, open with palms faced down, chin up
Step 3: Lean body forward as close to the ground as possible
Step 4: Fall first onto the knee pads using the hands as the 2nd point
of contact
Step 5: Slide the hands forward (do not lock the elbows)
4. Basic Foundation Skill
4. Balancing and edging
Student must understand about how to balance on their skates.
Explain to them the different edges such as inner, outer, centre and
corresponding edges and their usage.
Balancing
Establish the ready position (legs parallel, shoulder width apart,
knees bent with hands comfortable in front of your body)
From ready position, shift weight (with both feet on the ground) left
to right/right to left
6. Basic Foundation Skill
Edging practice
Outer edge – open your stance from the knees, learn outwards to
highlight outer edge
7. Basic Foundation Skill
Edging practice
Inner edge – close your stance from the knees , learn inwards to
highlight inner edge
8. Basic Foundation Skill
Edging practice
Corresponding edges – from a ready position, shift weight left and
right to highlight corresponding edges
9. V-walk to stride 1
1.Stand in a ready position (feet parallel on centre edges, knee
bend)
2.Rotate both ankle to form a V shape
3.Alternately lift right leg and left leg up and down (marching on the
spot)
4.Continue marching on the spot
5.Lean forward and apply pressure on the inner edges
6.Continue with a 4 step to a rolling position
11. Teaching Level 1 & 2 Skills
Level 1 Skills
Heel Stop
•Parallel glide (both legs parallel together)
•Scissors out (Right foot forward, left leg bend, shoulder
width apart)
•Shift weight to the left and lift up the right toe
•Apply pressure by doing a half sitting position
14. Scootering Right
1.Stand in a ready position
2.Rotate the right ankle to 45 degree
3.Apply pressure on the right foot inner edge, maintaining the left
foot on a parallel position
Scootering Left
1.Stand in a ready position
2.Rotate the left ankle to 45 degree
3.Apply pressure on the left foot inner edge, maintaining the right
foot on a parallel position
15. Scootering Left turn
1.Shift weight to the left leg
2.Stroke right leg outwards with inner edge
3.Rotate upper body to the left
16. Scootering right turn
1.Shift weight to the right leg
2.Stroke left leg outwards with inner edge
3.Rotate upper body to the right
17. Stride 2
1.Increase the intensity of stride 1
2.Increase the length of stride 1
3.Increase the duration of the glide
Stride Left: Stride Right:
18. Level 2 skills
Forward swizzle
1.Rotate both ankle to form a V shape
2.Push both feet outwards using outer edge
3.Pull back both feet using inner edge (knees should be
close together)
4.“A” stance to a ready position
20. Parallel turn
1.Parallel glide
2.Scissor out left leg for left turn, scissor right leg for right
turn
3.Turn upper body towards direction of turn
4.Shift weight towards direction of turn using
corresponding edges
22. T-stop
1.Scissor out right or left leg (depending on individual’s
master leg)
2.Shift weight forward on the forward leg
3.Lift up back leg and place it at a 45 degree angle
4.Place down foot and drag in to form a T shape
