The document is from Morgen Facilitations Inc., a company that develops buying facilitation methods and is led by Sharon Drew Morgen. It discusses strategies for gaining buy-in for new initiatives, including eliciting ideas about what success and failure may look like, getting agreement on next steps, and addressing potential resisters by understanding their concerns and how they could contribute. The core message is that buy-in only occurs after people's underlying beliefs and needs are engaged and addressed.
The document discusses why sales leads are often lost. It states that leads are being lost because sales focuses on solution placement rather than helping buyers manage their complex purchasing decisions. Specifically, it notes that sales gets involved too late in the buying process and is not present when major decisions are being made. Additionally, buyers are not receiving assistance in addressing internal issues like gaining buy-in from stakeholders for a potential change. The document advocates for an approach called "Buying Facilitation" which helps guide buyers through their decision making rather than immediately discussing solutions.
Adaptive Governance 2016 - final lectureVictor Galaz
The document provides an overview of the concepts covered in a course on adaptive governance. It defines adaptive governance as governing complex social-ecological systems in an era of rapid global change. It discusses key concepts like adaptive co-management, social networks, bridging organizations, and polycentric governance. It emphasizes applying these concepts to real-world cases and connecting the different lectures into a coherent summary. It provides guidance for the final exam, including defining terms, finding relationships between concepts, and using examples and applications.
The document discusses how technology is changing the sales process and role of salespeople. It introduces the concept of Buying Facilitation which helps buyers make decisions through an facilitated process instead of the traditional sales approach. Buying Facilitation focuses on addressing buyers' decision-making needs rather than pushing solutions, with the goal of helping buyers make an internal consensus before vendors are considered. The role of salespeople is shifting from influencing choices to responding to informed buyers and maintaining relationships.
The document discusses how information and communication technologies (ICTs) can help build social-ecological resilience. ICTs provide opportunities for early warning of stresses, coordinated responses, and learning through crowd-sourcing data. However, the abundance of data risks "drowning" users, so filtering is needed to reduce noise. A multiple signal approach is recommended to incorporate collective intelligence and detect ecological surprises. Network facilitation and steering are also important to enable cross-level, multi-actor responses and learning that can reduce vulnerabilities and foster renewal amid multiple stresses.
"Mobilizing Social Sciences for Sustainability"Victor Galaz
1) The document discusses how Swedish social science research can better contribute to international sustainability science.
2) It notes that currently, social science research is often seen as only filling in "social boxes" in systems frameworks, rather than taking a leading role.
3) The author argues that Swedish funders need an explicit strategy to promote social science research that actively engages with emerging international sustainability agendas and challenges like integrated analysis of global change. This should include specific funding calls, review processes, and evaluations.
The document discusses how technology has changed the sales process and reduced the role of salespeople. It notes that prospects can now research solutions and qualify needs online, entering late in the sales cycle with decisions already made. This has led to 50% of salespeople not meeting quotas as relationships and influence over decisions are less important. The document proposes that salespeople adopt a new approach called "Buying Facilitation" to become a trusted advisor and help buyers with their decision making process earlier on by addressing change management before solutions. This would allow salespeople to join buyers' decision teams and have more impact over the purchasing outcome.
The lecture discussed the emergence of a global network to address illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. It described the process by which informal initiatives form among actors with shared interests, gradually formalizing into a network for information sharing. A key aspect was the network's ability to process and share diverse data, like from satellites, to enable enforcement. Global networks have potential to coordinate responses at multiple levels and induce change in international regimes. However, an over-reliance on networks at the global scale faces challenges regarding resources, common understanding of problems, and cross-scale emergence.
This document summarizes research on transformations for sustainability. It discusses the concepts of adaptability and transformability in social-ecological systems, and frameworks for understanding and navigating transformations across multiple scales from macro to micro. Case studies are presented on transformations in water management and coastal resource governance. Key aspects of preparing for transformation include identifying thresholds, networks, and overcoming barriers. Navigating transitions involves using windows of opportunity, maintaining flexibility, and fostering cross-scale interactions. Building resilience in new systems requires creating incentives for stewardship and mobilizing networks.

The document discusses the weADAPT knowledge sharing platform for climate adaptation. It aims to go beyond simply sharing knowledge by integrating information intelligently from various credible sources and linking communities of practice with scientific research. The platform allows users to find other individuals and organizations working on similar issues, access and share information easily, learn from innovative methods and tools, and communicate climate change information visually. It integrates adaptation projects, data, stories and networks to facilitate collaboration and avoid duplication of efforts.

Lecture 2. Adaptive governance and bridging organisations Victor Galaz
This document discusses adaptive governance and the role of bridging organizations at different scales. It provides three case studies:
1) Kristianstads Vattenrike in Sweden restored wetlands and habitats through a bridging organization that connected local actors and networks with regional, national, and international levels of governance.
2) The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority rezoned the Great Barrier Reef, increasing protected areas through bridging state and local actors and balancing ecosystem services.
3) The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources reduced illegal fishing in the Southern Ocean by bridging national governments and non-state actors to collaboratively manage fisheries.
The document discusses the need for buying facilitation. It notes that only 7% of sales are typically closed, and 50% of salespeople do not meet their quotas. Buying facilitation helps potential buyers work through the behind-the-scenes decision making process by establishing strategies to address needs and gain buy-in for changes without disruption. The goal is to have customers buy rather than simply sell to them.
This document discusses the concept of adaptive governance and how to govern complex social-ecological systems undergoing rapid global change. It defines adaptive governance as patterns of collaboration, instruments that guide repeated interactions and steering attempts. Key concepts discussed include adaptive co-management, social learning, social networks, and polycentric governance. The document outlines learning goals around defining these concepts, applying them to real-world cases, and describing their relationship to innovation, transformations, and governance of dynamic systems. Assessment will involve lectures, discussion, case study analysis, blogging, and an examination.
Gunilla Reischl - The organization of GEGVictor Galaz
This document provides an overview of the history and development of global environmental governance. It discusses key global environmental conferences beginning in the 1970s that raised awareness and established frameworks for international cooperation on issues like climate change, ozone depletion, and biodiversity. International agreements and institutions have played an important role in establishing rules and decision-making procedures within different issue areas. However, global environmental governance involves a complex system with many state and non-state actors operating across levels of governance. Ongoing challenges include balancing state sovereignty with collective action problems and ensuring broad participation and accountability in global decision-making processes.
