There are few places on the planet that offer the total tranquility and unspoiled natural beauty of Maria Island. Maria Island is a very special place – no traffic, no phones, no shops, no stress. The four day walk is a perfect short break to take a ‘Device Detox’, to rejuvenate and recharge while enjoying the best of Tasmania. The breathtaking beauty, spectacular wildlife and friendly service make for a world class experience.CHANGE SLIDE
The island is a National Park and sanctuary for some of the world’s rarest wildlife including the endangered Tasmanian Devil. The Tasmanian Devil has been fighting a deadly cancer that has put the species at risk. The programme to introduce healthy Devils to Maria Island has been very successful. The aptly named ‘devil’ has been know to knick the boots of one of our guests while in our overnight camps! We now have special ‘devil proof’ hooks for hanging boots overnight. CHANGE SLIDE

On DAY 1 ; The Maria Island Home Team will collect our guests from wherever they are staying in Hobart.Back at our city base office, our guests meet the rest of the group, and be given backpacks and gear that is provided complimentary. If luggage storage is needed, a modest amount can be accommodated at our base office. Guests are given a briefing to explain all there is to know about their next 4 days in paradise. CHANGE SLIDE
Then it’s a drive of just over an hour to the fishing village of Tria BOONA where they will board the Maria Island boat for the 40 minute crossing. After a delicious lunch and a short walk to CAS A OO RINA Beach camp, there is time for an afternoon stroll through the eucalypt forest and visit a penguin colony at Haunted Bay.That evening, after a candlelit dinner, guests can stroll along the beach with a glass of wine delighting in the day they have had and excited by what lies ahead. On Day one, the total walking distance that would be covered is approximately 8Km or 5 Miles. CHANGE SLIDE

Our staff and our guests are a valued part of the family business and share the passion for responsible, sustainable and ethical tourism.We work closely with the Parks & Wildlife Service and Birds Australia in conservation projects and we play a leadership role in helping our local tourism industry and community.The camps are environmentally sensitive so no showers are available, but most guests enjoy a dip in the beautiful clear waters near the camps. A private composting toilet is available at each camp and a private washroom to freshen up.
