Exploring the tea world
What is High Tea?
• Traditionally, high tea was a working-class meal served on a high table at the end of the work
day, shortly after 5 p.m.
• High tea was a heavy meal of:
• Meat dishes such as steak and kidney pie
• Fish dishes such as pickled salmon
• Baked goods such as crumpets or, in Ireland, barmbrack
• Vegetables such as potatoes or onion cakes.
HIGH TEA
• High Tea (also known as meat tea or tea time is Ireland) ususlly refers to the
evening meal or dinner of the working class, typically eaten between 3pm and 5pm.
• High tea typically Consist of a hot dish, Followed by cakes and bread, butter and
jam. Occasionally there would be cold cuts of meat, such as ham salad.
DIFFERENCES OF HIGH TEA AND
AFTERNOON TEA
• Afternoon tea, also known as 'low tea,' is what most people think of when they hear
'high tea.' It involves things like manners, lace, and dainty foods. It is typically
served in the mid-afternoon and it was traditionally served on low tables, hence its
two names.
• Historically, afternoon tea was considered to be a ladies' social occasion, and it is
more often enjoyed by women than men to this day.

TEA TIMES
• Cream tea- A simple tea consisting of scones, clotted cream, marmalade or lemon
curd and tea.
• Elevensies- Morning coffee hour in England
• Royale Tea- A social tea served with champagne at the begging or sherry at the end
of the tea.
• High Tea- high tea co notates an idea of elegancy and regal-ness when in fact is was
an evening meal most often enjoyed around 6pm as labourers and miners returned
home.
DRESS CODE
• Nowadays there is no need for us men to wear a jacket and tie (unless otherwise
specified)
• Trousers or smart jeans, collared shirt and clean/un-scuffed shoes.
• No sportswear or trainers(sneakers).
• For the ladies they can get all dress up in their fancy outfits.
