popular is the book series named Extraordinary
Voyages, which includes 54 books, between
Twenty thousand leagues under the seas.
▪ He has been the second most translated author
in the world since 1979.
▪ Died of diabetes on March 24th 1905
Plot
The book is narrated in first person by the French professor and
biologist Pierre Aronnax, which is made prisoner by the Captain
Nemo in the Nautilus submarine. The professor was in company
of his servant and a Canadian harpooner Ned Land.
Everything starts with Pierre, his servant, Ned Land and a ship’s
crew in an hunt expedition of a strange creature of the sea that
has made a lot of damages on another ships. When the creature
attacks their ship they finish in the Nautilus. There met the
Captain Nemo who made them prisoners.
Inside of the submarine they live adventures under the sea,
learning new things of the ocean that they think impossible.
Genre
20000 thousands leagues under the sea is a science fiction
novel, as the most of all the novels that Jules Verne wrote. It
is part of the series Extraordinary Voyages.
Characters
• Captain Nemo: A mysterious adventurer that control the Nautilus,
he attacks constantly the commercial ships, is a lonely man that
for some reasons has a deep hate to the most part of the human
race.
• Professor Pierre Aronnax: is a professor in the Museum of Natural
History of Paris who aboard the ship that has an encounter with
the Nautilus, he was in the mission of discover what creature was
making all the damages.
Characters
• Conseil: Is the manservant of Pierre, he is devoted in his role of servant,
is not a complex character, but stands out in his own way. Also the
conseil it was a kind of a trainee.
Ned land: The Canadian harpooner who also was a prisoner in the
Nautilus, he all the book has the idea to scape.
Setting
The most part of the setting is under the sea, getting amaze
of the new things that we read about the sea. Everything
inside the great Nautilus, which has a fascinating structure,
that in that time was almost consider the future. We read
about the mythic Atlantic, and a lot of seas, like The Red
Sea, the Mediterranean, and more. Also we read about
setting in warships which this ones have fight with the
Nautilus, almost of the times Nautilus wins.

Translations
The novel was first translated into English in 1873 by Lewis Mercier,
but he cut almost a quarter of Verne’s French text, he committed
too much translating errors, sometimes include drastically
distorting the original text.
In 1966 a new and modern revision appeared by Walter Miller
and the Mercier’s errors where restored in the text proper.
