How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

5. D’una banda, existeix un decret estatal que regula l’autoprotecció:
RD 393/2007, de 27 de març, pel qual s’aprova la Norma Bàsica
d’Autoprotecció dels centres, establiments i dependències dedicats a
activitats que puguin donar origen a situacions d’emergència
D’altra banda:
Llei 4/97, de protecció civil de Catalunya
LO 6/06, d’Estatut d’Autonomia de Catalunya
6. • Llei 4/97, de 20 de maig, de protecció civil de Catalunya:
Art 7.1: “Les persones, les empreses i, en general, les entitats i els organismes que fan
activitats que poden generar situacions de greu risc col·lectiu, de catàstrofe o de calamitat
pública, i també els centres i les instal·lacions, públics i privats, que poden resultar
afectats de manera especialment greu per situacions d'aquest caràcter, són obligats a
adoptar mesures d'autoprotecció i a mantenir els mitjans personals i materials necessaris
per a afrontar situacions de risc i d'emergència.”
Art 7.2: El Govern ha de determinar per reglament el Catàleg d'activitats i els tipus de
centres a què es refereix l'apartat 1, i també les mesures mínimes a adoptar en cada cas,
d'acord amb les directrius bàsiques d'autoprotecció establertes per la legislació vigent. En el
procediment d'elaboració d'aquest Catàleg s'han d'escoltar les persones, les entitats i els
centres afectats, directament o per mitjà de llurs organitzacions associatives”
Art. 20: “El Govern ha de determinar per reglament l'estructura del contingut dels plans
d'autoprotecció”
El DECRET D’AUTOPROTECCIÓ és un reglament executiu o de
desenvolupament de la llei 4/97
8. Donar resposta als articles 7 i 20 de la llei 4/97: establir el catàleg
d’activitats que poden generar o veure’s afectades per situacions de greu
risc col·lectiu
Establir els sistemes de control per part de l’administració, tant local com
autonòmica, respecte la validació del pla, el seu registre i el seu procés
d’implantació
Garantir els continguts mínims i de qualitat dels PAU de major risc
mitjançant l’acreditació de tècnics amb experiència demostrable o per mitjà de
formació o exàmen per les altres persones interessades.
Establir els sistemes de coordinació entre les activitats i els serveis públics
que formen el sistema de la protecció civil, en cas d’emergència.

21. ►Requisits que ha de complir el PAU:
El PLA D’AUTOPROTECCIÓ és el document que preveu, per una determinada activitat,
instal·lació, centre, establiment o dependència:
les emergències que es poden produir com a conseqüència de llur pròpia activitat i
les mesures de resposta davant situacions de risc, de catàstrofes i de calamitats públiques
que els poden afectar.

Garantir els continguts mínims i de qualitat dels PAU de protecció civil
mitjançant l’acreditació de tècnics amb experiència demostrable o per
mitjà de formació o exàmens per les altres persones interessades.
El decret estatal apuntava un plantejament de qualitat que va deixar sense
resoldre: la competència tècnica. El decret de la Generalitat resol aquest
problema perquè especifica quins són els tècnics competents i planteja un model
formatiu vinculat inicialment a l’Institut de Seguretat Pública, amb una certa
capacitat de delegació en altres centres acreditats.

•Han d’avisar a la DGPC amb una antelació de 10 dies hàbils sense recursos
externs, amb recursos externs 1 (un mitjà extern) o 4 mesos (>1 mitjà extern)
• La DGPC valorarà la necessitat que personal tècnic al seu servei o d’Empreses
Acreditades faci el seguiment directe de l’evolució del simulacre o indirecte
• Després del simulacre, en el termini de 20 dies hàbils, han de trametre un informe
a la DGPC
