Swami Vivekananda traveled extensively throughout India and observed architectural monuments from various regions. During his travels in America and Europe, he was also exposed to buildings in modern, medieval, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. To honor Ramakrishna's all-encompassing divine personality, Vivekananda envisioned a temple incorporating architectural features from various world religions so people of all faiths would feel welcome. The Ramakrishna Temple blends influences from Indian buildings like the Jodhpur Palace and European structures like the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral.
