PROJECT TITLE
CSR PRACTICES OF AGRANI BANKLIMITED
Shihab
Therefore I have inspired to check the CSR contribution of Agrani bank Limited during
normal and COVID period.
Companies all over the world have mobilized to help their communities in the wake of
Covid-19. Some companies have made financial donations toward health facilities or to local
governments, some have purchased products and machinery to fight the virus, others have
even converted their production chain to produce tools that are useful for doctors and
nurses, such as gowns, masks, and hand sanitizer.
In addition to these community initiatives, many companies have also
taken actions aimed at their employees, providing support for smart
working, offering training activities accessible from home, or providing
financial support in some cases.
The European Commission’s 2001 Green Paper, which defined corporate social responsibility as “a
concept whereby companies decide voluntarily to contribute to a better society and a cleaner
environment.”
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Overall Objective:
The main objective is to equip myself with the practical ideas and as well
as be able to know the different aspects of banking sector and to
evaluate how the bank is conducting corporate social responsibility.
Specific objectives: The specific objectives of the project are as
follows:
1. To Understand the nature of corporate social responsibility.
2. To know the contribution of Agrani Bank Ltd. for social uplifting.
3. To compare the CSR practices of Agrani Bank Ltd. with its competitor.
METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY

Descriptive and comparaive method
To explore the objectives of the study I have used secondary data and different
literature. The data has been collected from annual reports, manuals, publications of
ABL and DBBL.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
• CSR is a concept whereby companies integrate social and
environmental concerns in their business operations and in
their interactions with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis
(Green Paper, 2001).
• CSR has some internal dimensions such as: human
resources management, health and safety at work,
adaptation to change and management of environmental
impact and natural resources.
• The external dimensions include local communities,
business, partners, suppliers and consumers, human rights
and global environmental concerns.

Findings
Educations: Agrani Bank has long been practicing CSR in education sector
through scholarship for poor and brilliant students, education promotion
scheme, education for underprivileged children, donations to educational
institution etc.
Health: ABL has always been directly or indirectly involve in projects for
improvement in health sector of Bangladesh.
However, the study did not find any CSR data of ABL regarding health
during COVID-19.
Environment: the corporate were ABL financed – be it large or small – are
becoming fully aware of environmental impacts and complying with the
bank’s requirements. Besides, ABL also provided financial support for a
number of environmental causes last year.

Art and Culture: Over the years ABL has been contributing for the
development of ‘Art & Culture’ sector in Bangladesh which includes
donating to different cultural institutions, financial assistance to young
and budding talents, promoting art & culture in grass-root etc.
Sports: ABL is currently highlighting on youth development and sports.
ABL takes initiatives mostly to grass level so that the talents and skills
may come from rural and district level.

FINDINGS
• At the health sector of Agrani Bank, it is found that in the last five
years it has lagged behind DBBL. But compared to private banks they
are trying to survive in the competition.
• At the education sector of Agrani Bank is the same picture. In some
years they are comparatively ahead of DBBL.
• Art & culture, Agrani bank is almost same position as of DBBL.
• Recently the CSR Contribution of ABL to sports sector is not
satisfactory compare to DBBL.
• From 2014-2016 both Agrani & DBBL did not invest in the
environment sector. But reviewing the data of 2017-18 both banks
had invested in this sector and in that case DBBL had more priority.

  • 3. Therefore I have inspired to check the CSR contribution of Agrani bank Limited during normal and COVID period. Companies all over the world have mobilized to help their communities in the wake of Covid-19. Some companies have made financial donations toward health facilities or to local governments, some have purchased products and machinery to fight the virus, others have even converted their production chain to produce tools that are useful for doctors and nurses, such as gowns, masks, and hand sanitizer. In addition to these community initiatives, many companies have also taken actions aimed at their employees, providing support for smart working, offering training activities accessible from home, or providing financial support in some cases. The European Commission’s 2001 Green Paper, which defined corporate social responsibility as “a concept whereby companies decide voluntarily to contribute to a better society and a cleaner environment.”

PROJECT OBJECTIVES Overall Objective: The main objective is to equip myself with the practical ideas and as well as be able to know the different aspects of banking sector and to evaluate how the bank is conducting corporate social responsibility. Specific objectives: The specific objectives of the project are as follows: 1. To Understand the nature of corporate social responsibility. 2. To know the contribution of Agrani Bank Ltd. for social uplifting. 3. To compare the CSR practices of Agrani Bank Ltd. with its competitor.
  • 5. METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY Objectives Methods 1. To Understand the nature of corporate social responsibility. Literature review 2. To know the contribution of Agrani Bank Ltd. for social uplifting. Descriptive method 3. To compare the CSR practices of Agrani Bank Ltd. with its competitor. Descriptive and comparaive method To explore the objectives of the study I have used secondary data and different literature. The data has been collected from annual reports, manuals, publications of ABL and DBBL.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY • CSR is a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interactions with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis (Green Paper, 2001). • CSR has some internal dimensions such as: human resources management, health and safety at work, adaptation to change and management of environmental impact and natural resources. • The external dimensions include local communities, business, partners, suppliers and consumers, human rights and global environmental concerns.

Findings Educations: Agrani Bank has long been practicing CSR in education sector through scholarship for poor and brilliant students, education promotion scheme, education for underprivileged children, donations to educational institution etc. Health: ABL has always been directly or indirectly involve in projects for improvement in health sector of Bangladesh. However, the study did not find any CSR data of ABL regarding health during COVID-19. Environment: the corporate were ABL financed – be it large or small – are becoming fully aware of environmental impacts and complying with the bank’s requirements. Besides, ABL also provided financial support for a number of environmental causes last year.
  • 11. Contd. Art and Culture: Over the years ABL has been contributing for the development of ‘Art & Culture’ sector in Bangladesh which includes donating to different cultural institutions, financial assistance to young and budding talents, promoting art & culture in grass-root etc. Sports: ABL is currently highlighting on youth development and sports. ABL takes initiatives mostly to grass level so that the talents and skills may come from rural and district level.

  • 13. FINDINGS • At the health sector of Agrani Bank, it is found that in the last five years it has lagged behind DBBL. But compared to private banks they are trying to survive in the competition. • At the education sector of Agrani Bank is the same picture. In some years they are comparatively ahead of DBBL. • Art & culture, Agrani bank is almost same position as of DBBL. • Recently the CSR Contribution of ABL to sports sector is not satisfactory compare to DBBL. • From 2014-2016 both Agrani & DBBL did not invest in the environment sector. But reviewing the data of 2017-18 both banks had invested in this sector and in that case DBBL had more priority.
