1. Title of Your
Item.
Be concise but
also provide
sufficient
information to
your customer!
I I I . SEL L ING A PRODUCT -
EXAMPLE
22
2. This lady
pays a lot of
attention to
detail as
online buyers
will not be
able to test the
product out for
themselves.
I I I . SEL L ING A PRODUCT -
EXAMPLE
23
3. Promotions
Use well described
titles!
This seller also uses
her description to
talk about
promotions, which
would be attractive
to customers.
IV. DEL IVERY
Under shipping, you can decide on the processing time for an item
to be dispatched for delivery. This is the amount of time it would take
you to prepare the said item.
Buyer pays the shipping cost. Shipping costs depend on
the country they want you to ship to. Add as many
countries to ship as you’d like with separate shipping costs
for each country.
24
IV. DEL IVERY
Shipping Profiles allow you to quickly update multiple
listings with similar shipping costs.
You can create separate Shipping Profiles for the
different types of items you sell.
You can determine the shipping cost for an item of a
specific size, weight and shipping method. Then, create
a Shipping profile for that item so you can quickly add
those details to new listings for those items.
25
V. RECEIVING PAYMENT
26
You can accept
payment by credit
cards, debit cards,
Paypal and Etsy gift
cards.
We recommend
PayPal for security
and convenience.
More information will
be included later in
this presentation.
VI . CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
27
Feedback from customers
are important!
Potential customers will
always look at reviews
before deciding to buy
anything from your shop.
Regarding negative
feedback, don’t take it to
heart. It will help you
improve as a seller as you
will learn from your
mistakes and become
better.
VI I . YOUR POL ICIES
• It is up to you to make your own policies.
• Click on your shop on the upper right side of the
page, the look at the left side, click on Information
and Appearance, and then Policies.
• It is quite important to do so as to be covered under
28
seller protection.
• Refer to the policies of similar shops. Explore Etsy
for policies of other sellers!
VI I . YOUR POL ICIES
Etsy’s Shop Statistics show you both the volume
of the traffic in your shop as well as the traffic
source.
29
This is available under:
- Your Shop
- Shop Statistics
VI I I . FEES
1. There is a listing fee of £0.12, regardless of how
many items you list.
2. Additional order processing fees of 4% + £0.20
GBP per payment.
You will be charged a fee for each order processed
directly on Etsy, deducted from the order at the time of
sale. This fee is assessed on the total amount of the
sale, including tax and shipping.
30
IX. TAX INFORMAT ION
• Every individual has to sign up with the tax authorities in the
first 3 months after they have opened an Etsy account.
31
• You can register it online at
http://online.hmrc.gov.uk/shortforms/form/CWF1ST?dept-name=
CWF1&sub-dept-n
• Make sure you also complete the Class 2 NI exemption if you
don’t expect to make more than about £5000 in the tax year
• Information is available at
www.hmrc.gov.uk/working/intro/class2.htm
• You can include a tax in your price.
B. OPEN YOUR
EBAY ACCOUNT
32
RETRIEVED FROM EBAY.CO.UK
HT TP: / /WWW.EBAY.CO.UK/
I . ABOUT EBAY
ADVANTAGES
Simple to use.
Huge traffic (over 14 million
active users in the UK
alone).
Receive assistance from
eBay with regard to returns
and refunds.
33
DISADVANTAGES
Fees are relatively high.
Listings are 35p if you have done
more than 20 this month, 10% of
a transaction (including transport
cost) plus PayPal fee.
Negative feedback destroys
reputation.
I I . REGISTRAT ION
Click on the Register button on the top left of the
homepage.
Registration will require a few important details such
as your name, email and a password.
34
Ebay gives a user ID
automatically upon
registration. This can be
later edited from “Me
ebay”.
Only the user ID will be
shown to buyers and
thus privacy is ensured.
I I I . SEL L ING A PRODUCT

I I I . SEL L ING A PRODUCT

the item. Also put in the asked price.
38
IV. DEL IVERY
• Choose whether you want to charge the customer
for delivery or whether you will pay the delivery
charge yourself.
39
We recommend
that you avoid
international

postage can
become very
expensive.
IV. SAVE THE CHANGES

finalise your PayPal account before
you can post your first listing.
• PayPal will be covered after this slide.

POL ICIES: REFUNDS AND
DEFECTS
It is up to you to decide your return policies.
We recommend that you state clearly that no cash refunds
will be provided except for defects.
If you wish to provide cash refunds or exchanges for non-defective
items, you should state that shipping, handling and
insurance fees cannot be refunded to the buyer, and that the
buyer must pay for their own return shipping cost to you.
52
POL ICIES: REFUNDS AND
DEFECTS
What if there is a defect in an item I sent?
Make sure that you package your item carefully to avoid
defects during delivery.
If you are selling vintage goods, make sure to list the
condition of the good clearly. E.g. “Condition is 8/10, with
few minor scratches”
If the customer states that the item has a defect, request that
they e-mail you with a photo of the defect within a fixed time
period you stated in your policy.
You should provide a refund if the customer requested for it if it
is your negligence in sending out a faulty item!
53
POL ICIES: REFUNDS AND
DEFECTS
Example of a defective return policy:
“Please check the items when your order
arrives. If there are any discrepancies, please
notify me within 5 days so that I can take
corrective action.
If the problem is because I messed up (yikes) –
incorrect description, wrong item shipped or
major flaw, then you can return it for a full
refund.
However, please contact me before sending
anything back.”

  • 23. I I I . SEL L ING A PRODUCT - EXAMPLE 23 3. Promotions Use well described titles! This seller also uses her description to talk about promotions, which would be attractive to customers.
  • 24. IV. DEL IVERY Under shipping, you can decide on the processing time for an item to be dispatched for delivery. This is the amount of time it would take you to prepare the said item. Buyer pays the shipping cost. Shipping costs depend on the country they want you to ship to. Add as many countries to ship as you’d like with separate shipping costs for each country. 24
  • 25. IV. DEL IVERY Shipping Profiles allow you to quickly update multiple listings with similar shipping costs. You can create separate Shipping Profiles for the different types of items you sell. You can determine the shipping cost for an item of a specific size, weight and shipping method. Then, create a Shipping profile for that item so you can quickly add those details to new listings for those items. 25
  • 26. V. RECEIVING PAYMENT 26 You can accept payment by credit cards, debit cards, Paypal and Etsy gift cards. We recommend PayPal for security and convenience. More information will be included later in this presentation.
  • 27. VI . CUSTOMER FEEDBACK 27 Feedback from customers are important! Potential customers will always look at reviews before deciding to buy anything from your shop. Regarding negative feedback, don’t take it to heart. It will help you improve as a seller as you will learn from your mistakes and become better.

YOUR POL ICIES • It is up to you to make your own policies. • Click on your shop on the upper right side of the page, the look at the left side, click on Information and Appearance, and then Policies. • It is quite important to do so as to be covered under 28 seller protection. • Refer to the policies of similar shops. • 53. POL ICIES: REFUNDS AND DEFECTS What if there is a defect in an item I sent? Make sure that you package your item carefully to avoid defects during delivery. If you are selling vintage goods, make sure to list the condition of the good clearly. E.g. “Condition is 8/10, with few minor scratches” If the customer states that the item has a defect, request that they e-mail you with a photo of the defect within a fixed time period you stated in your policy. You should provide a refund if the customer requested for it if it is your negligence in sending out a faulty item! 53
