CLIMATE CHANGE / DAMS
Source - https://davidsuzuki.org/story/large-dams-fail-climate-change-indigenous-rights/
Brazil has flooded large swaths of the Amazon for
hydro dams, despite opposition from Indigenous
Peoples, environmentalists and others. The country
gets 70 per cent of its electricity from hydropower.
Brazil’s government had plans to expand
development, opening half the Amazon basin to
hydro. But a surprising announcement could halt
that.
In an interview with O Globo, Mines and Energy
Executive Secretary Paulo Pedrosa said the
government is reconsidering hydro construction in
the face of societal pressure, environmental
damage and increasingly competitive renewable
energy options.
We can see parallels in Canada, where large hydro
projects have been pushed through despite similar
opposition and concerns.
With an October election in Brazil, things could
change, but we hope whatever government holds
power will recognize there are better options than
large-scale hydro. We also hope the B.C.
government will reconsider its decision to proceed
• 60% of Canada’s power generation comes
from hydro dams
• China flooded land, but no comment, why?

• Suzuki has been called out for his less than
truthful statements

CLEAN GROWTH FUND
Source - https://www.canada.ca/en/natural-resources-canada/news/2017/11/new_155-
million_cleangrowthprogramlaunchedtoaddressclimatechange.html
It is an example of our Government’s new collaborative approach, which involves leveraging investment in
publicly funded research, laboratories and programs to better promote clean technologies.
Budget 2017 committed $200 million to encourage clean technology in the natural resource sectors. Natural
Resources Canada will deliver $155 million of this funding under the Clean Growth Program. The remaining
$45 million will support clean technology research and the development, demonstration and adoption of clean
technology through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
R&D SPENDING
Source - http://www.jwnenergy.com/article/2017/11/cnrl-leads-oil-sector-rd-spend-places-fourth-overall-canada/
Overall, the energy sector is a relatively small R&D investor compared to other Canadian industries, the
Research Infosource rankings show.
The top-performing industry sector in fiscal 2016 was aerospace, where six companies posted total R&D
spending of $2.69 billion. Seventeen software and computer services companies were second in combined
R&D spending ($1.99 billion), followed by 21 pharmaceuticals/biotechnology firms ($1.90 billion).
Western Canada, where the energy sector is concentrated, also falls behind R&D investment levels in more
industrialized central Canada. Regionally, 46 Ontario-based firms accounted for $5.36 billion in R&D spending
(42 per cent of the total R&D spending), compared with 26 Quebec companies ($5.33 billion, 42 per cent of
total) and 28 companies based in Western Canada ($2.14 billion, 17 per cent of total).
Overall in fiscal 2016, Bombardier Inc. ($1.97 billion of R&D spending, down 14.2 per cent on the year)
remained by far the country’s leading R&D performer.
BLOG – ENERGY SUBSIDIES
• Liberals economics that throwing $200M at retrofitting is a business subsidies

BLOG – ONTARIO HYDRO
RATES
Here is what I told a liberal supporter:
Liberal supporter,
So, Fraser Institute is wrong, right? So, is the AG report wrong as well?

I have done my own work through reviewing different information and high hydro rates have
driven out business - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/failed-clean-energy-policies-
ontario-wynne-and-mcguinty
Ontario businesses are at the breaking point with the Liberals as they have seen carbon
taxation, elimination of EHT threshold, high hydro rates, planned hikes to minimum wage,
etc. Business can adjust to government policies, but not when they continue to be slammed
by Wynne with bad after bad policy!
Jobs replaced by manufacturing have been lower in pay, like retail/transportation/etc.

CLEAN TECH / CATHERINE MCKENNA
• Where has pushing clean at all cost grown an economy?
Australia yank it because it was hurting the economy. You
would think McKenna would do research, but then again, she
is a liberal. Liberals think they know everything when it
comes to established new policies.
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/transformation-to-
clean-technology-economy-canada-september-2017. (The
new 31,000 jobs are regulatory burden which means more
cost to business and less time to focus on growing their
business)
• Butts is lead consultant as such is pushing FIT on to all
provinces - http://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/ontario-disaster-
architects-1.3884108
• Canada still used combustible fuel to produce close to 18%
of their power. What is the road map to convert combustible
fuels to other sources of power
• Many remote locations rely on diesel generator. These same
diesel generators are also facing carbon tax
• Liberals have no clue how to managed clean technology
including power generation

  • 6. CLIMATE CHANGE / DAMS Source - https://davidsuzuki.org/story/large-dams-fail-climate-change-indigenous-rights/ Brazil has flooded large swaths of the Amazon for hydro dams, despite opposition from Indigenous Peoples, environmentalists and others. The country gets 70 per cent of its electricity from hydropower. Brazil’s government had plans to expand development, opening half the Amazon basin to hydro. But a surprising announcement could halt that. In an interview with O Globo, Mines and Energy Executive Secretary Paulo Pedrosa said the government is reconsidering hydro construction in the face of societal pressure, environmental damage and increasingly competitive renewable energy options. We can see parallels in Canada, where large hydro projects have been pushed through despite similar opposition and concerns. With an October election in Brazil, things could change, but we hope whatever government holds power will recognize there are better options than large-scale hydro. We also hope the B.C. government will reconsider its decision to proceed • 60% of Canada’s power generation comes from hydro dams • China flooded land, but no comment, why? https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/c hinas-three-gorges-dam-disaster/ • Suzuki has been called out for his less than truthful statements

  • 9. CLEAN GROWTH FUND Source - https://www.canada.ca/en/natural-resources-canada/news/2017/11/new_155- million_cleangrowthprogramlaunchedtoaddressclimatechange.html It is an example of our Government’s new collaborative approach, which involves leveraging investment in publicly funded research, laboratories and programs to better promote clean technologies. Budget 2017 committed $200 million to encourage clean technology in the natural resource sectors. Natural Resources Canada will deliver $155 million of this funding under the Clean Growth Program. The remaining $45 million will support clean technology research and the development, demonstration and adoption of clean technology through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
  • 10. R&D SPENDING Source - http://www.jwnenergy.com/article/2017/11/cnrl-leads-oil-sector-rd-spend-places-fourth-overall-canada/ Overall, the energy sector is a relatively small R&D investor compared to other Canadian industries, the Research Infosource rankings show. The top-performing industry sector in fiscal 2016 was aerospace, where six companies posted total R&D spending of $2.69 billion. Seventeen software and computer services companies were second in combined R&D spending ($1.99 billion), followed by 21 pharmaceuticals/biotechnology firms ($1.90 billion). Western Canada, where the energy sector is concentrated, also falls behind R&D investment levels in more industrialized central Canada. Regionally, 46 Ontario-based firms accounted for $5.36 billion in R&D spending (42 per cent of the total R&D spending), compared with 26 Quebec companies ($5.33 billion, 42 per cent of total) and 28 companies based in Western Canada ($2.14 billion, 17 per cent of total). Overall in fiscal 2016, Bombardier Inc. ($1.97 billion of R&D spending, down 14.2 per cent on the year) remained by far the country’s leading R&D performer.

  • 12. BLOG – ONTARIO HYDRO RATES Here is what I told a liberal supporter: Liberal supporter, So, Fraser Institute is wrong, right? Jobs replaced by manufacturing have been lower in pay, like retail/transportation/etc. https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/economy/census-2016-statscan- income/article36242392/?ref=http://www.theglobeandmail.com&

  • 14. CLEAN TECH / CATHERINE MCKENNA • Where has pushing clean at all cost grown an economy? Australia yank it because it was hurting the economy. You would think McKenna would do research, but then again, she is a liberal. Liberals think they know everything when it comes to established new policies. https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/transformation-to- clean-technology-economy-canada-september-2017. (The new 31,000 jobs are regulatory burden which means more cost to business and less time to focus on growing their business) • Butts is lead consultant as such is pushing FIT on to all provinces - http://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/ontario-disaster- architects-1.3884108 • Canada still used combustible fuel to produce close to 18% of their power. What is the road map to convert combustible fuels to other sources of power • Many remote locations rely on diesel generator. These same diesel generators are also facing carbon tax • Liberals have no clue how to managed clean technology including power generation
