The UKTI Lisbon team invites you to join the British delegation that will travel to Lisbon for the conference and networking event: Connected Health: Bridging the Gap Between Innovation and Practice – Champions & Partnerships (Portugal and UK). This initiative will address the topic of Connected Health, the importance of technology in Healthcare, particularly on telemonitoring and self-management of chronic conditions, focusing on Portuguese/British flag projects. UK companies are invited to join the delegation and have a series of bilateral meetings with potential partners with whom they can pursue business in Portugal, Portuguese speaking countries, and others where local players have been delivering projects.

As a representative of a British company, you are invited to attend this workshop
and actively pursue opportunities in Portugal and Portuguese speaking markets,
such as Angola, Mozambique, and Brazil. Infrastructure projects have been
booming in these markets as Brazil prepares for the World Cup and Rio
Olympics, and Angola and Mozambique explore energy resources.
The event follows a number of initiatives held in both Portugal and the UK about
the “platform” concept, which is one of the priorities of the United Kingdom’s
commercial diplomacy in Portugal. This was adopted not only because it is fully
endorsed by the Portuguese Government, but mainly due to the strategy of
Portuguese companies, who see Portuguese speaking markets as their natural
springboard for international expansion.

We are not trying to replace the direct trade and investment ties the UK has with
the Lusophone world. Good bilateral relations with Brazil, Angola and
Mozambique, whose friendship is prized by the UK Government, remain high on
the agenda. But we want to add depth to these by promoting an alternative
partnering route for business development, building on UK’s longstanding close
relationship with Portugal.
The UK sometimes faces barriers in Lusophone countries, e.g. the lack of
historical ties, common language, and legal systems. By partnering with the
Portuguese industry, British companies, especially SMEs, should find it easier to
overcome such barriers. We strongly believe that besides bringing benefits to
Portuguese speaking markets, the approach we are promoting will help the UK to
deliver on the economic growth agenda.
