Should I stay or should I go? Some
people claim that teenagers are restless,
inquisitive and sentimental. I agree. On the
borderline between maturity and
superficiality, everything looks bigger or
insignificant depending on what the teenager
wishes to see. Nowadays, we are uncertain
whether we should stay in the place where
we grew up or settle in major urban centres.
Our town, Poros may satisfy the most
demanding of visitors who wish to admire
the beauty of the landscape. However,
young people’s expectations are not fulfilled
with imagery and mere scenic beauty. I am
also concerned about this. I get angry; I
feel frustrated; I feel that somehow I have
been wronged. But why? Am I not just two
hours away from Athens? Nevertheless, I
cannot attend an important scientific
lecture; I do not have the opportunity to
meet new people; I have stopped being a
receptor of images that are brand new. I
live in the same place, in Poros’s rural
“microcosm”. Very often, I wonder whether,
after finishing my university studies, I will
wish to come back and stay here, or if it will
be extremely boring for me. The economical
crisis leads me to more practical and less
utopian solutions. Nonetheless, I still
wonder: could I live forever trapped in an
impersonal, concrete city with the hustle and
bustle, the alienation and stress? I am not
yet sure. Are teenagers unstable in
principle, or is it the human soul that always
seeks, questions, expects and sways between
the possible and the impossible, the desired
and the unrequited? We may provide
answers and decide upon our life’s direction
based upon our own predicament or our
wishes and unique taste.

SpotlightSpotlight – INTERVIEW with PARIS
BATZAVALIS
-Tell us a few things about yourself. Who is
Paris?
- Paris is a very strong athlete and at the
same time, a really sensitive person. When
he has his mind set on something, he tries
very hard in order to achieve it; and he also
finds the fact that he is talking about
himself in the third person hilarious .
- For how many years have you been doing
track and field and why did you start?
- I have been doing it for about five years.
It was my sister’s idea. At the beginning, I
did not want to do it, because I preferred
football. But when my hand touched the
javelin, I was stuck with it.
- Do you have a role model, someone you
admire?
-Yes, I do. It is Zelezni, who holds the
World Record at javelin. He has an excellent
technique but above all he has a down-to-
earth character; he never thinks that he is
superior to others contrary to Bolt.
- What is the benefit of doing sports?
- Sports have given me mental strength and
have taught me to fight and never give up.
- Which do you consider to be your greatest
achievement?
-The first is when I won the title Champion
of Hellas in the category of young men and
the second was when I went to the World
Championship. I also came second at the
Balkan Games.
- What was your best moment?
- It was when I entered the stadium at the
World Championship. I realised that only
the best athletes from all over the world
were there and I was one of them. I felt an
incredible energy surging inside me.
4
- Can you mention some places, which you
have visited as part of your sports
experience?
- It is true that during the races I went to
places that I probably wouldn’t have gone.
For example, I went to Lille, France and
twice to Turkey (more specifically,
Trapezounta and Bursa). I have also
travelled to Serres and Ierapetra.
- What is your opinion about performance-
enhancing drugs?
- Well, doping has now become a reality
within games, especially at higher levels.
Yet, athletes should realise that they can do
without them.
Historical InjectionHistorical Injection – WORLD WAR II
Operation Barbarossa (named for Frederick
Barbarossa, the medieval German ruler who,
as myth had it, would rescue Germany in her
time of need) was the code name for
Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union
during World War II that began on 22 June
1941. Over 4.5 million troops of the Axis
powers invaded the USSR along a 2,900 km
front, the largest invasion in the history of
warfare. In addition to the large number of
troops, Barbarossa involved 600,000 motor
vehicles and 750,000 horses. The German
soldiers believed that nothing could stop
their attack and their dream of a Nazi
Europe. In early December, the Germans
attacked Moscow, but they were defeated
by the Russian army. The Germans began to
retreat after three days of fierce fighting;
hence, the Russian capital was saved by the
German threat. Operation Barbarossa was
the largest military operation in human
history in both manpower and casualties. Its
failure was a turning point in the Third
Reich's fortunes. Barbarossa and the areas
that fell under it became the site of some of
the largest battles, deadliest atrocities,
highest casualties, and most horrific
conditions for Soviets and Germans alike —
all of which influenced the course of both
World War II and 20th century history.

ONIRAMA – THE BEST GREEK BOY
BAND
The group ONIRAMA was formed in
October 2000 by Theodore Marantinis and
Dionisis Frantzis, when they were in the
army. The other founding members were
the brothers George and Dimitris Kokonides,
while a few months later, Kostas
Karakatsanis joined them. Initially, the
name of the band was “MIXIN UP THE
MEDICINE”, inspired by one of Bob Dylan’s
lyrics, which was a reflection of the
relatively wide range of music played by the
band. Their excess drive and enthusiasm led
to critical acclaim and popular reception. In
2003, the name of the band changed and
became ONIRAMA. It is a compound word
made up from the phrase “ONIRA MAS”
(“OUR DREAMS”) and within that context,
the dream of the band started to become a
reality. In 2005, ONIRAMA’S first record
was released with the title “A Tough Time
for Princes” which comprised 10 songs with
their distinct personal pop-rock sound. In
2008, they released "Hourglass". The first
single from the album, "The Ballad of the
Madman" became the theme song of the
advertising campaign of the mobile network
operator “Wind”. In the summer of 2008,
Onirama toured the county, until the 1st
of
August, when they opened the concert for
Lenny Kravitz at Terra Vibe. In the same
year, they won the award for the Best Band
of the year both in the MAD AWARDS and
in the awards of STATUS magazine. They
were also among the Greek candidates for
the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards.
Shortly before the end of 2009, ONIRAMA
released another album, named “Without
Cause”. The album included the song “Rebel”,
that ONIRAMA wrote for Stratos
Markides’s film “I love Karditsa” and
reached number one in the Greek chart. At
the same time, ONIRAMA worked
intensively at the studio for the recording
of their album “In the Land of the Mad” with
the legendary producer Greg Haver, who has
excelled in his collaborations with “Manic
Street Preachers”, “Melanie C” and “Tom
Jones”. In 2011 their song “Poor” became
the number one song in the Greek airplay
chart, and triggered more than 1.000.000
hits on YouTube in a very short period of
time. In the MAD VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS
in June 2011, they won again the award for
the Best Group for the fourth consecutive
year, as well as the award for the best Rock
Video Clip. They also participated in the
World Special Olympic Games of Athens
2011 by singing in the Closing Ceremony of
the event in the crowded Kallimarmaro
Stadium. In addition, they took part in a
unique live show, which was part of the
“Special Olympics Global Youth Rally”.
Thousands of athletes and spectators from
all over the world danced to the rhythm of
their songs. In the summer of 2011, they
made the biggest summer tour of their
career, called “ONIRAMA 10 YEARS LIVE”.
They performed in 35 cities and towns in
Greece, as well as Cyprus, with striking
success.

THE ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE
SPOTLESS MIND
There are some times that people wish to
have the opportunity to erase intense
memories from memory. This is what Kate
Winslet achieves through her role in the film
called “THE ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE
SPOTLESS MIND”. The eccentric
Clementine disappointed with her ex-
husband Joel (Jim Carey), undergoes a
psychiatrist's experimental procedure in
which all of her memory of Joel is removed,
after the couple has tried for years to get
their relationship working fluidly.
Frustrated by the idea of still being in love
with a woman who doesn't remember their
time together, Joel agrees to undergo the
procedure as well, to erase his memories of
Clementine. The film, which takes place
mostly within Joel's mind, follows his
memories of Clementine backwards in time
as each recent memory is replaced, and the
procedure then goes on to the previous one,

HORSES AND HORSE RIDING
Have you ever wondered how exciting and
wonderful horseback riding is? First things
first: horse riding can be divided into two
categories: athletic and free riding. Both
require skill and concentration. The mental
ability that riders transfer to their horse is
most essential. Everybody, regardless of
age, can start from scratch and learn how to
ride and build up a relationship with horses.
Patience and persistence are very important
in order to succeed in making the horse
overcome its fears. Horses are very much
alive and sensitive creatures, and develop
phobias like ours. The way you approach the
horse, or rather your state of mind at the
time, your aura, your smell, everything
contributes to the stimuli that the horse will
receive. The first experience is different
for everyone. Some people will feel at ease,
others will be frightened and others might
wish to come down. However, those who
choose to become the master of the horse,
should overcome their compunctions and win
the horse’s trust. Familiarity with the horse
requires willpower and patience, but above
all LOVE. Finally, I shall refer to my
favourite part of horse-riding, the gallop.
The previous stage involves simply walking
with the horse and it can become quite
boring, while galloping gives you an incredible
feeling and an overwhelming sense of
freedom. When you gallop, you should adopt
a proper posture and guide it in a certain
way. Hence, you become one with the horse
and can enjoy the full pleasure of riding.
Moreover, you are gradually building rapport
with the horse, based on understanding,
trust and love. In brief, strong will and
patience are needed in order to enjoy the
thrills of horse riding. If your horse senses
that it can rely on you, it will also fully enjoy
any time spent with its master.

which is likewise seen, and then erased. But
what happens when they meet each other
again on the same train? Through their
overturning and unusual adventure, they find
out the hidden truth about their special
relationship.

people have started using it, too. It is an
enjoyable site, but there are dangers

However, it can be used as a means of

Therefore, one should be informed

MAKE-UP TIPS for DARK SKIN
If you have dark skin, then you have good
news because dark skin is more resilient
than fair skins. Due to more pigment, it can
withstand exposure to the sun much better.
For your skin tone, you should stick to warm,
earthy colors.
Foundation: Make sure that the foundation
is not lighter than your skin tone. Try to get
one, which is as close to your normal skin
colour as possible. Special attention should
be paid to blending.
Eyes: The eyes can be accented with dark
browns, prunes, copper and burgundies. For
the day, use brown or grey eyeliner or eye
pencil to line the eyes. Use inky black
mascara.
Blush: For your blush, you should choose
colours from coral, rose, deep orange. Avoid
browns and peachy shades for blush-on. For
very dark skin, try a dark rose pink colour
for the day and shades of bronze, plum and
wine for the night.
Lips: Lip colours with berry shades, plums,
burgundies and all shades of browns look
great with dark skin. Also beiges, golds and
soft pinks work well. Avoid orange shades;
they will wash you out.
TRAVELTRAVEL
LONDON, UK
London is the capital of England. It’s one of
the most beautiful cities in the world. It is
deservedly renowned as the liveliest, most
exciting, entertaining and cosmopolitan city
on earth. Someone who visits London for the
first time must see Big Ben, the much loved
and ever-photographed clock tower. Right
next to it, there are the Houses of
7
Parliament. Have a walk along the River
Thames and visit the London Eye, perched on
the south bank of the Thames. The 450ft
“Eye” is officially the biggest wheel in the
world. The British Museum is the country’s
oldest, largest and most popular museum and
it is worth a visit. A vast repository of
treasure from all over the world can be
found there: Egyptian mummies, Viking
weapons, Samurai swords, Greek statues and
the list goes on. Buckingham palace is
another tourist attraction. Standing
imperiously at the end of the London Mall,
the grand 19th
century structure is the
official residence of the Queen and the
country’s most famous palace. Do not forget
to pay a visit to Madame Tussaud’s museum,
St. Paul’s Cathedral and Harrods. Culturally
diverse, multiracial and endlessly
fascinating, London has a character and
vibrancy not found anywhere else.

Sonnet XVIII, Shall I Compare
Thee?
By William Shakespeare
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
FACESCHOOLFACESCHOOL
YOUR PROBLEM...SORTED!
I am a high-school pupil and I have a
problem. I think I am ugly and fat, which is
the reason I do not have any friends. What
should I do?
Evidently, your self-esteem is very low. I
believe that many teenagers feel the same
way. Being different does not mean that you
are not socially accepted. My advice would
be to try to take part in school activities. In
this way, you will get to know other
teenagers. As far as looks are concerned, I
do not think that our external appearance
plays a major role to other people. Probably
you do not feel good with yourself and in a
way you are projecting this to others. If
you feel beautiful, then you will be more
confident and make friends easily.

Are teenagers unstable in principle, or is it the human soul that always seeks, questions, expects and sways between the possible and the impossible, the desired and the unrequited? We may provide answers and decide upon our life’s direction based upon our own predicament or our wishes and unique taste. Who is Paris? - Paris is a very strong athlete and at the same time, a really sensitive person. When he has his mind set on something, he tries very hard in order to achieve it; and he also finds the fact that he is talking about himself in the third person hilarious . - For how many years have you been doing track and field and why did you start? - I have been doing it for about five years. It was my sister’s idea. At the beginning, I did not want to do it, because I preferred football. But when my hand touched the javelin, I was stuck with it. - Do you have a role model, someone you admire? -Yes, I do. It is Zelezni, who holds the World Record at javelin. He has an excellent technique but above all he has a down-to- earth character; he never thinks that he is superior to others contrary to Bolt. - What is the benefit of doing sports? - Sports have given me mental strength and have taught me to fight and never give up. - Which do you consider to be your greatest achievement? -The first is when I won the title Champion of Hellas in the category of young men and the second was when I went to the World Championship. I also came second at the Balkan Games. - What was your best moment? - It was when I entered the stadium at the World Championship. I realised that only the best athletes from all over the world were there and I was one of them. I felt an incredible energy surging inside me. 4
  • 5. - Can you mention some places, which you have visited as part of your sports experience? - It is true that during the races I went to places that I probably wouldn’t have gone. For example, I went to Lille, France and twice to Turkey (more specifically, Trapezounta and Bursa). I have also travelled to Serres and Ierapetra. - What is your opinion about performance- enhancing drugs? - Well, doping has now become a reality within games, especially at higher levels. Yet, athletes should realise that they can do without them. Historical InjectionHistorical Injection – WORLD WAR II Operation Barbarossa (named for Frederick Barbarossa, the medieval German ruler who, as myth had it, would rescue Germany in her time of need) was the code name for Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II that began on 22 June 1941. Over 4.5 million troops of the Axis powers invaded the USSR along a 2,900 km front, the largest invasion in the history of warfare. In addition to the large number of troops, Barbarossa involved 600,000 motor vehicles and 750,000 horses. The German soldiers believed that nothing could stop their attack and their dream of a Nazi Europe. In early December, the Germans attacked Moscow, but they were defeated by the Russian army. The Germans began to retreat after three days of fierce fighting; hence, the Russian capital was saved by the German threat. Operation Barbarossa was the largest military operation in human history in both manpower and casualties. Its failure was a turning point in the Third Reich's fortunes. Barbarossa and the areas that fell under it became the site of some of the largest battles, deadliest atrocities, highest casualties, and most horrific conditions for Soviets and Germans alike — all of which influenced the course of both World War II and 20th century history. 5

The other founding members were the brothers George and Dimitris Kokonides, while a few months later, Kostas Karakatsanis joined them. Initially, the name of the band was “MIXIN UP THE MEDICINE”, inspired by one of Bob Dylan’s lyrics, which was a reflection of the relatively wide range of music played by the band. Their excess drive and enthusiasm led to critical acclaim and popular reception. In 2003, the name of the band changed and became ONIRAMA. It is a compound word made up from the phrase “ONIRA MAS” (“OUR DREAMS”) and within that context, the dream of the band started to become a reality. In 2005, ONIRAMA’S first record was released with the title “A Tough Time for Princes” which comprised 10 songs with their distinct personal pop-rock sound. In 2008, they released "Hourglass". The first single from the album, "The Ballad of the Madman" became the theme song of the advertising campaign of the mobile network operator “Wind”. In the summer of 2008, Onirama toured the county, until the 1st of August, when they opened the concert for Lenny Kravitz at Terra Vibe. In the same year, they won the award for the Best Band of the year both in the MAD AWARDS and in the awards of STATUS magazine. They were also among the Greek candidates for the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards. Shortly before the end of 2009, ONIRAMA released another album, named “Without Cause”. The album included the song “Rebel”, that ONIRAMA wrote for Stratos Markides’s film “I love Karditsa” and reached number one in the Greek chart. At the same time, ONIRAMA worked intensively at the studio for the recording of their album “In the Land of the Mad” with the legendary producer Greg Haver, who has excelled in his collaborations with “Manic Street Preachers”, “Melanie C” and “Tom Jones”. In 2011 their song “Poor” became the number one song in the Greek airplay chart, and triggered more than 1.000.000 hits on YouTube in a very short period of time. In the MAD VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS in June 2011, they won again the award for the Best Group for the fourth consecutive year, as well as the award for the best Rock Video Clip. They also participated in the World Special Olympic Games of Athens 2011 by singing in the Closing Ceremony of the event in the crowded Kallimarmaro Stadium. In addition, they took part in a unique live show, which was part of the “Special Olympics Global Youth Rally”. Thousands of athletes and spectators from all over the world danced to the rhythm of their songs. In the summer of 2011, they made the biggest summer tour of their career, called “ONIRAMA 10 YEARS LIVE”. They performed in 35 cities and towns in Greece, as well as Cyprus, with striking success. Movie ReviewMovie Review THE ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND There are some times that people wish to have the opportunity to erase intense memories from memory. This is what Kate Winslet achieves through her role in the film called “THE ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND”. The eccentric Clementine disappointed with her ex- husband Joel (Jim Carey), undergoes a psychiatrist's experimental procedure in which all of her memory of Joel is removed, after the couple has tried for years to get their relationship working fluidly. Frustrated by the idea of still being in love with a woman who doesn't remember their time together, Joel agrees to undergo the procedure as well, to erase his memories of Clementine. The film, which takes place mostly within Joel's mind, follows his memories of Clementine backwards in time as each recent memory is replaced, and the procedure then goes on to the previous one, Super-SportsSuper-Sports HORSES AND HORSE RIDING Have you ever wondered how exciting and wonderful horseback riding is? First things first: horse riding can be divided into two categories: athletic and free riding. Both require skill and concentration. The mental ability that riders transfer to their horse is most essential. Everybody, regardless of age, can start from scratch and learn how to ride and build up a relationship with horses. Patience and persistence are very important in order to succeed in making the horse overcome its fears. Horses are very much alive and sensitive creatures, and develop phobias like ours. The way you approach the horse, or rather your state of mind at the time, your aura, your smell, everything contributes to the stimuli that the horse will receive. The first experience is different for everyone. Some people will feel at ease, others will be frightened and others might wish to come down. However, those who choose to become the master of the horse, should overcome their compunctions and win the horse’s trust. Familiarity with the horse requires willpower and patience, but above all LOVE. Finally, I shall refer to my favourite part of horse-riding, the gallop. The previous stage involves simply walking with the horse and it can become quite boring, while galloping gives you an incredible feeling and an overwhelming sense of freedom. When you gallop, you should adopt a proper posture and guide it in a certain way. Hence, you become one with the horse and can enjoy the full pleasure of riding. Moreover, you are gradually building rapport with the horse, based on understanding, trust and love. In brief, strong will and patience are needed in order to enjoy the thrills of horse riding. If your horse senses that it can rely on you, it will also fully enjoy any time spent with its master. 6

FASHION MAKE-OVERFASHION MAKE-OVER MAKE-UP TIPS for DARK SKIN If you have dark skin, then you have good news because dark skin is more resilient than fair skins. Due to more pigment, it can withstand exposure to the sun much better. For your skin tone, you should stick to warm, earthy colors. Foundation: Make sure that the foundation is not lighter than your skin tone. Try to get one, which is as close to your normal skin colour as possible. Special attention should be paid to blending. Eyes: The eyes can be accented with dark browns, prunes, copper and burgundies. For the day, use brown or grey eyeliner or eye pencil to line the eyes. Use inky black mascara. Blush: For your blush, you should choose colours from coral, rose, deep orange. Avoid browns and peachy shades for blush-on. For very dark skin, try a dark rose pink colour for the day and shades of bronze, plum and wine for the night. Lips: Lip colours with berry shades, plums, burgundies and all shades of browns look great with dark skin. Also beiges, golds and soft pinks work well. Avoid orange shades; they will wash you out. TRAVELTRAVEL LONDON, UK London is the capital of England. It’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world. By William Shakespeare Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date: Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimm'd; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd; But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest; Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou growest: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this and this gives life to thee. FACESCHOOLFACESCHOOL YOUR PROBLEM...SORTED! I am a high-school pupil and I have a problem. I think I am ugly and fat, which is the reason I do not have any friends. What should I do? Evidently, your self-esteem is very low. I believe that many teenagers feel the same way. Being different does not mean that you are not socially accepted. My advice would be to try to take part in school activities. In this way, you will get to know other teenagers. As far as looks are concerned, I do not think that our external appearance plays a major role to other people. Probably you do not feel good with yourself and in a way you are projecting this to others. If you feel beautiful, then you will be more confident and make friends easily.
