I. Krissy Waterman gave a speech about how littering is a serious problem in Indiana and proposed solutions to address it. Indiana ranks as the third dirtiest state and littering harms wildlife and costs taxpayers money.
II. Krissy proposed two solutions - making household cleanups of a one mile radius mandatory once a year and allowing inmates to participate in litter cleanup. Both would reduce costs and increase responsibility and environmental health.
III. A cleaner environment would benefit the economy, wildlife, and quality of life. Individual actions like not littering and community cleanups can make a significant impact on reducing trash.
This document discusses the Philippine judiciary branch. It describes the different levels of courts, including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Court of Tax Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Regional Trial Courts, Metropolitan Trial Courts, Municipal Trial Courts, Municipal Circuit Trial Courts, and Shari'a District and Circuit Courts. It explains the composition and jurisdiction of each court. The overall purpose is to help students understand the structure and roles of the Philippine judiciary branch.
The document discusses the history and evolution of government in the Philippines from pre-Spanish times to present. It covers the different forms of government that ruled the Philippines, including the barangay system, Spanish colonial government, revolutionary governments, American regime, Japanese occupation, and current provisional government. The key concepts of political science like the definition of state, elements of state, theories of state origin, forms of government, and the purpose and necessity of government are also explained in detail.
The document discusses the Philippine judiciary system. It is comprised of regular courts organized into four levels - the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Regional Trial Courts, and Metropolitan/Municipal Trial Courts. There are also special courts like the Sharia Court and Court of Tax Appeals that have limited jurisdiction. Quasi-judicial agencies that help support the judiciary include the Civil Service Commission, Commission on Elections, and Commission on Audit. The Supreme Court is the highest court and has the Chief Justice and 14 Associate Justices who must be natural born Filipinos over 40 with 15+ years experience as a lower court judge or practicing law.
The document discusses two approaches to governance - old and new - and their implications for comparative politics. Under the old approach, the state is the central actor focused on exerting control, while the new approach emphasizes how the state interacts with society. Both are important for comparative analysis as countries vary in their governance models. The new approach challenges the idea that the state is always the dominant actor but also risks undermining the state's role. An ideal model may incorporate aspects of both approaches through cooperation between the state and society.

Topic: Stop throwing away organic matters into our landfill.
General Purpose: To Persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience that they should not throw away organic matters into our landfills
as trash.
Thesis Statement: Throwing away organic matters is filling up our landfills, causing unnecessarily greenhouse
gases and loss of a valuable resources; therefore we can reduce this problem if people implement
personal composting bins or/and a composting facility.
Introduction
I. (Open with Impact) Does this make sense? (Pick up my apple, bite it and then throw it into the trash.
Then take the trash bag and tie it shut. Sealing the apple in the bag to be thrown away) (throw the bag
out the door). We are paying to throw away dirt! We are paying to throw away a reusable resource! We
are paying, for someone to produce greenhouse gases!
II. (Introduce Topic) Out of convenience it is easy for us to throw away our organic trash, but in reality is it
the best solution?
III. (Audience Adaptation) I realize all of you, in some way or another, care about the environment and try
to take the right actions to be environmentally cautious.
Look at Cody’s thesis statement (below). Notice how he identifies the main
problems (arguments) first and then he identifies the solutions (plan/policy) second.
Also notice how this is written in one complete sentence. His specific purpose is
clear, audience-centered, and identifies the focus of this speech.
The thesis statement and preview, in the introduction, match! Notice how he has
organized the language in his preview (first, next, and finally) so the audience can
clearly follow the exact points she plans to cover in the body of her speech. This is
called signposting. When you have a lengthy thesis, using signposting is very
helpful for the audience because it helps them follow each step.
Unit 3—Persuasive Speaking FA2015 Page 8
IV. (Establish Credibility) I to do care about the environment as well and for most of my life, I have been
either, actively trying to reduce my organic materials into our landfills or by personally having my own
compost bin.
V. (Preview Main Points) Today I will discuss with you the main concerns of organic wastes going into our
landfills.
A. First I will clarify what is our organic waste and how much is going into our landfills.
B. Next I will share with you how organic matters in our landfills produce methane gases.
C. Third I will address the loss of resources from organic waste that we could gain if they were
prevented from going into landfills.
D. Finally, I will share with you how you can help.
Body
I. Let us begin by taking a close look at the main problems associated with organic waste.
A. (Problem one) A lot of you think of your food scraps, fruit and vegetables scraps when you
think about organic waste.

Fact
A. In fact, Littering can take the lives of harmless plants and
animals.
1. According to the RSPCA, in any given year they will receive
over 7,000 phone calls about a litter-related incident and their
officers regularly rescue animals trapped or hurt by litter.
2. Here are some preventable incidents officers working with
the RSPCA have dealt with:
a. A hedgehog with its head stuck in plastic can
holder,
b. A turtle trapped in a plastic can holder,
c. A fox with its head stuck in a wheel hub,
d. A snake getting cut on an old can,
e. A deer trapped in plastic,
f. A puppy with its head stuck on a glass jar,
g. A hedgehog with its head wedged in an empty tin.
3. Just by littering you could be killing innocent animals and
having other harmful effects.
B. According to greenecoservice.com here are ten harmful effects
of litter.
1. Litter in the streets can travel through storm drains to bays
and oceans.
2. Litter cost money. Removing litter cost everyone who pays
taxes.

8. Harm or kill wildlife.
9. Harm waterways.
10. It’s demoralizing and disgusting.
C. Even a small piece of trash can have a great effect on the
environment around it.
1. According to met.lausd.net here are some percentages of
littered objects that are found in the streets.
a. The most littered item is cigarette butts with a 29.57
percentage. You may be thinking that cigarettes can’t
possible harm anything, but if cigarettes are dangerous to
humans animals can easily swallow them congesting all
the harmful toxins.
b. The second most littered item is glass bottles with a 11.48
percentage.
c. The third highest item littered is chip bags with a 10.70
percentage.
2. It may not seem like there is that much trash littered around
our area but there is.

Solution #2
2. With all this trash there needs to be people picking it up and there is,
but the problem is that we as tax payers are paying for it. According
to Statisticsbrain.com the total annual amount of money spent on
cleaning up litter is $11.5 Billion.
A. One solution I came up with is to create a law to where all
households should be responsible for cleaning up their area in a
one-mile radius of their property once a year.
1. This is great for many reasons, some including:
a. Creates a sense of ownership in the problem and
responsibility for actions.
b. Taxes won’t be spent on trash collection.
c. Increase the chance of a healthy environment.
2. Of course some households won’t be able to participate if the
owner is elderly or has medical problems. These special cases
would be documented and exempt from picking up trash.
B. The second solution I came up with is to allow inmates to pick up
litter. This has been done in the past but it needs to be done more
often in Indiana.
1. This is not only great for the environment, but also for the
inmates.

B. Picking up after ourselves is easy!
1. According to Planetvarner.com if 10% of the population
picked up trash each day (thirty million people)? That’s 30
