In a literature class, students completed a four-step activity to write a poem using literary devices. The first step was choosing a photo, the second was writing nouns, adjectives, and verbs related to the photo, the third was choosing literary devices, and the fourth was writing a poem incorporating the words and devices. The student chose this activity because they were able to use their imagination to write a poem in a way they had not done before using rhyme. They learned creating poems with literary devices and rhyme can be challenging. While they were pleased with their poem, they felt it could have been extended with more stanzas, devices, and rhymes.
