Suppose you wanted to study genes controlling the structure .pdfabsgroup9793
Suppose you wanted to study genes controlling the structure of bacterial cell surfaces. You decide
to start by isolating bacterial mutants that are resistant to infection by a bacteriophage that binds to
the cell surface. The selection procedure is simple: Spread cells from a culture of sensitive
bacteria on a petri plate, expose them to a high concentration of phages, and pick the bacterial
colonies that grow. To set up the selection you could (1) spread cells from a single liquid culture of
sensitive bacteria on many different plates and pick every resistant colony; or (2) start many
different cultures, each grown from a single colony of sensitive bacteria, spread one plate from
each culture, and then pick a single mutant from each plate. Which method would ensure that you
are isolating many independent mutations.

OntheSpot Courier Services Previous chapters have describe.pdfabsgroup9793
On-the-Spot Courier Services
Previous chapters have described the technological capabilities that Bill Wiley from the
management wants for servicing his customers. However, one of Bill's problems is that his
company is very small, so he cannot afford to develop any special-purpose equipment or
sophisticated software.
Given this limitation, Bill's need for advanced technological capabilities comes at a reasonable
time. Equipment manufacturers are developing equipment with advanced telecommunications
capabilities, and freelance software developers are producing software applicationsmany of which
provide the capabilities that Bill needs. The one caveat is that because this will be a live
production system, it needs to be reliable, stable, error-free, dependable, and maintainable.
Let us review some of the required capabilities of the new system, which have been described in
previous chapters:
Customers
Customers can request package pickup via the Internet.
Customers can check the status of packages via the Internet.
Customers can print mailing labels at their offices.
Drivers
Drivers can view their schedules via a portable digital device while on their routes.
Drivers can update the status of packages while on their routes.
Drivers can allow customers to "sign" for packages that are delivered.
The system "knows" where the driver is on his route and can send real-time updates.
Drivers can accept payments and record them on the system.
Bill Wiley (management)
Bill can record package pickups from the warehouse.
Bill can schedule delivery/pickup runs.
Bill can do accounting, billing, etc.
Bill can access the company network from his home.
Given these requirements, do the following:
1. What kind of fraud is possible in this scenario? By the customer? By the truck driver? By
collaboration between system users? What steps should Bill take to minimize the opportunity for
fraud?
2. What kind of access controls should be implemented for different parties?
3. Research the Web and find out what is required to purchase a digital certificate for a Web site.
Then, explain what Bill must do to implement a secure site with HTTPS. Do you recommend that
Bill secure his site with HTTPS and digital security? Why or why not?.

In java - Owners and Computers
Create a java program that will model the relationship between a person and the computer they
own. The program should be able to record personal information about the Person who owns the
computer and also details about the Computer itself.
1)Create a new project with a driver class called ComputerDriver. Add 2 other classes called
Person and Computer. The Computer class should have the attributes make and model . Create
a constructor method that takes parameters for make and model. Create getter methods for the
attributes of the class.
2)The Person class should have a persons name attribute. Next create an association between
Computer and Person. To do this the Person class should contain a reference to a Computer
object. Create a constructor method in your Person class that takes parameters for the persons
name and computer. Also create a constructor that takes a parameter for the persons name only.
Create getter methods for the attributes of the class.
3)In the main method of the driver class create a Computer object and a Person object named
person1 and pass the name and computer object as parameters to the constructor of the Person
object. Print the owner name and make and model of his computer. Access all of this information
through the person1 object.
4)Add an attribute that will store a reference to a borrowed computer in the Person class and a
method which allows an owner to borrow a computer. Add an accessor to return the borrowed
computer.
5)Create a new Person object named person2 which has only a name parameter in your main
method. Call the borrowComputer method of the person object and pass the computer object as a
parameter. Print out the name of the borrower and the make and model of the computer using the
person2 object. Print out the owners name using the person1 object.
6)A person may have a number of computers; desktop, laptop, tablet, etc. Allow the Person class
to store a list of all the owners computers. Add an ArrayList to the Person class and a method
which allows an owner to buy a computer and add it to their list of computers. Modify the
constructor to add the computer passed as a parameter to the list of computers. Add an accessor
to return the list of the persons computers.
Note: By adding this array list, an already existing object may become redundant. Discuss this
with your colleagues?
7)In the main method create 2 more computer objects and call the buyComputer() method of the
person1 object to allow them to buy the two computers. Print all of person1s computers.
Output from the program should look similar to the following:
Owner: Ahmed, Computer: Dell Inspiron
Borrower: Ali, Computer: Dell Inspiron, Owner: Ahmed
Ahmed's computers:
Make: Dell, Model: Inspiron
Make: Apple, Model: Ipad
Make: Toshiba, Model: Satellite.

Use the invitation.html file that you submitted in your previous assessment to add functionality to
your form. This new functionality should allow the user to enter in the number of volunteers,
whereupon the form will display the corresponding number of input fields for the user to enter
information for each volunteer. Once the form is submitted, the data should be stored in an array
to be looped through to create separate invitations for each volunteer on a new page.
Make sure to do the following:
Add an input field that allows the user to input the number of volunteers as a numeric value.
Once the number of volunteers has been entered (by pressing the enter key while the cursor is in
the input field), use JavaScript to display the volunteer input fields based upon the number of
volunteers entered.
Write JavaScript that stores the form into an array of records once the form is submitted.
Write JavaScript to Loop through the array of records and then display the invitation message for
each volunteer. (Unlike a simple array that contains a single variable for each index, an array of
records allows us to store related data fields for each index in the array. If we were going to store
this in simple arrays, we would need a separate array for each data field.)
Once completed, view your pages in each of your two selected Web browsers to see if the content
renders appropriately and consistently within each. Next, verify that your code is error-free using
the appropriate browser-specific development tool found in the Resources.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
