MARTIN MCDONAGH’S THE PILLOWMAN FEBRUARY 9-13
STOCKTON’S EXPERIMENTAL THEATRE
There seems to be something eerily wrong with the children’s stories told in Martin McDonagh’s The
Pillowman. Let us just say they take a more horrific turn than your average fable and are not exactly
suitable for children.
The play follows the writer Katurian as she is interrogated by torturous cops. It seems some of the
gruesome stories that Katurian has written have come to life, and Katurian, along with her sister, are
the prime suspects. Katurian must prove their innocence or die.
Director Lane Jackson says about the play:
“The Pillowman straddles the line between darkness and light, creativity and responsibility, innocence
and guilt. In an unnamed totalitarian future, the writer Katurian is interrogated about the gruesome
content of her short stories. These stories are revealed to be part of a larger world, a world that is
a perverted mirror of our own institutions designed to comfort and protect us. The play asks the
questions, ‘who is responsible and where does that responsibility end? Can we make the world we live
in become a slightly brighter place or must we always descend further into despair? What does it
take to find hope?’”
Director Lane Jackson is from Absecon, NJ. The cast includes Collin Costa from Beuna, NJ; Taylor Cawley
from Middle Township, NJ; Lauren Jackson from Sea Isle City, NJ; Sarra Mazur from Edison, NJ; Tori
Moratelli from Vineland, NJ; Tyler Riley from Burlington, NJ and Courtney Sherman from Mays Landing,
NJ.
The Pillowman will be performed at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey from February 9-12,
2011 at 7:30pm and February 13, 2011 at 3:00PM in Stockton’s Experimental Theatre. Tickets may be
purchased through the Performing Arts Center box office at (609) 652-9000 or online at
stockton.edu/pac. Tickets are $8 General Admission or $6 for Seniors and Students of Stockton and
Atlantic Cape Community College.
