Pictureperfectprogram
Granda Framing new staff member Vasileios Karamitros with workmate Frank Clark.
A GOVERNMENT grant has
helped a Hadfield picture
framer find work, ending a
long pursuit and enabling
him to put his 40 years of
experience to practice.
Vasileios Karamitros is
happily employed at Granda
Framing in Pascoe Vale
thanks to a federal program
that provides incentives to
hire older workers.
Granda Framing owner
Rhonda Smith said the
partnership had been
“wonderful, we couldn’t be
happier”.
MAX Employment Glen-
roy approached the framing
business to hire Mr Karam-
itrosinhisfirstjobsincemov-
ing from Greece in 2009.
“He’s actually taught us a
couple of things we didn’t
knowbefore,soit’sbenefiting
both of us,” Ms Smith said.
The Government’s Restart
Programme provides busi-
nesses $10,000 over two years
tohireanemployeeagedover

and on income support for six
months or more.
MAX Employment Glen-
roy business manager Matt
Strutynski said it was a great
way for businesses to learn
from the life experience and
skills mature-age workers
brought.
“Vasileios’s story is a great
example – he is beaming with
pride since starting work and
(Granda Framing) have
found a great team member,”
Mr Strutynski said.
