This document discusses using Ruby and the Arduino microcontroller board to enable physical computing. It provides an overview of the Arduino board's specifications and capabilities. It then introduces RAD, a Ruby library that allows controlling an Arduino from Ruby code, porting over much of the Arduino API. Examples are shown of Arduino code to blink an LED versus the equivalent RAD Ruby code. Additional upcoming features for RAD are mentioned. Examples are also given of projects built with Arduino boards, like a drink mixing robot controlled by a Ruby program.
