This abstraction allows the developer to focus solely on the functions that deliver value to the business and not on the plumbing.
The economics of serverless are also interesting since you only consume resources when your functions run, rather than having applications running continually waiting to server requests.
Sadly some leading serverless platforms are not open and restrict choice in terms of: - language - deployment

Transactions in Microservices
Transactions are an easy technique for the developer to achieve data consistency. Changes are all committed or rollback, so your data is always aligned and other sessions see no incomplete information.
But in a distributed environment, this cannot be achieved because data can be spread over several data sources and types of data sources, or we cannot scale distributed transactions very well.
To eventually achieve the data consistency, the SAGA pattern is very popular and describes a procedure to achieve it using the concept of a compensatable action.
The session goes a bit deeper into these problems and concepts and shows you with several examples how you can achieve eventual consistency within microservices with the use of the MicroProfile Long Running Action specification which is developed to address this.

How can you make different pieces of your unit of work consistent in the distributed setup of your micro-service application?
You associate the term transaction probably with a database, but the data source can be anything including a database in the micro-service world.
The MicroProfile Long Running Actions specification is based on sagas and the OASIS LRA transaction model specification. It defines the framework to guarantee the eventual consistency requirement using compensating actions for example.
This session will explain you the challenges and concepts of the MP LRA framework.

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
