Guadeloupe has a tropical climate with high average temperatures and many rainy months between April and December. September is the wettest month while August is the hottest and December is the coolest. The population of Guadeloupe is around 403,750 people with the capital and largest city being Basse-Terre. In the past, the island was owned by Sweden but it is now located in the Caribbean Sea near Dominica and Montserrat, approximately 3,948 miles from the UK. The largest mountain on Guadeloupe, La Grande Soufriere, was formerly an active volcano but is now extinct, with its last eruption occurring in 1976.
