This document provides an introduction and objectives for a PhD thesis on the representation of elites hegemony and subaltern resistance in the Alkap and Gombhira Gan performances of Bangladesh. It discusses previous research on these performances and the use of subaltern theory to analyze power dynamics. The thesis aims to identify techniques of subaltern resistance and elites hegemony through examining aspects like the social class of artists, purposes of performances, tactics used under elite influence, and areas of protest against elites. Methodology includes observing performances, interviewing locals, and analyzing scripts, recordings and publications to understand the ideological context and cultural confrontation between social classes.
