Star Scholarship And Fellowship- Scholarships for undergraduates
and fellowships for graduate students support those pursuing degrees
related to the oil and gas industry for up to a maximum of 4 years.
SPE Section Scholarships - Many sections offer funding for student

5. IIT Kharagpur Chapter
SPE IIT Kharagpur chapter aims at providing a platform to students of
IIT Kharagpur involved in petroleum and allied fields to showcase
their talent in various national and international events organized by
SPE
Founded by Prof. Khanindra Pathak with help of Mr. Piyush Panigrahi
& Mr. Suraj Prakash (batch of ‘11 and ‘12 resp)
Officially recognized by the SPE International In October 2010.
Started Functioning officially in February ,2011
This Student Chapter is a unique one in the fact that our Institute
does not have a specialized course on Petroleum Engineering

6. Early Days….
First Annual meet of the Chapter took place in April 2011 in which Mr. BK
Borgohain, Chief Geologist (S), ONGC and Mr.Debasish Mukherjee, Chief
Geologist, ONGC delivered a guest lecture on the topic “Petroleum,
Prospecting and Extraction”.

7. Early Days…..
A significant accomplishment for the student chapter was hosting an Inter
College Petroleum case study competition in 2011 GREATSTEP –annual
technical Fest of Department of Mining Engineering and the problem
statement was based on “Oil production by Texado in Ecuadorian rain forest.”

Mr. Karthik Ravichandran represented SPE IIT Kharagpur Student Chapter at the
International Petroleum & Technological Conference (IPTC) at Bangkok in March,2011.

Processes" using simulation software like Pro2,HTRI and
ASPEN in association with CHEMINSIGHT 2013-

delivered by Mr. Sandeep Lahiri from Indian Oil
Corporation Limited.
