Perdagangan internasional adalah
transaksi dagang diantara para subyek
ekonomi negara yang satu dengan
subyek ekonomi negara lain, baik
mengenai barang ataupun jasa-jasa.
Dengan barang tentu harus
memperhatikan syarat-syarat dalam
commercial diplomacy yang timbul akibat
transaksi-tranksasi itu. Diplomacy
merupakan kegiatan tersendiri yang
penting dan memberikan dasar atas
pelaksanaan internasional.

Bagian dari ilmu ekonomi yang mempelajari dan menganalisis tentang transaksi
dan permasalahan ekonomi internasional yang meliputi perdagangan,
keuangan/ moneter, organisasi (swasta/ pemerintah) dan kerja sama ekonomi
antar negara
Mengkaji saling ketergantungan antarnegara. Menganalisis arus
barang dan jasa, pembayaran-pembayaran antara sebuah negara dan
negara-negara lain di dunia, kebijakan serta pengaruhnya pada
kesejahteraan negara.

5. Perbedaan Ekonomi Internasional
dan Ekonomi Nasional
Perbedaan dalam uang yang digunakannya, walaupun sebenarnya dengan ‘makin
sempitnya’ dunia ini, semakin banyak pula mata uang yang berlaku di banyak Negara
(convertible currency) seperti dollar Amerika, poundsterling Inggris, Mark Jerman, Yen,
Jepang dan lain sebagainya.
Peraturan-peraturan yang dikeluarkan oleh pemerintah yang berhubungan dengan
hubungan-hubungan ekonomi tersebut.
Derajat mobilitas sumberdaya yang dipakai, seperti tanah, sumberdaya alam yang
lain, tenaga kerja dan modal. Tanah jelas tidak mempunyai mobilitas, tetapi
sebenarnya didalam negeripun sumberdaya tanah juga bersifat tidak mobil.

6. Faktor Pendorong Negara
Melakukan Perdangan Internasional
1. Tidak semua negara mempunyai peralatan produksi ataupun kondisi ekonomis yang
sama, kualitas (mutu) maupun kuantitas (jumlahnya).
2. Akibat dari ketidaksamaan kondisi-kondisi ekonomis tersebut, maka terjadilah
perbedaan biaya produksi sesuatu barang antara negara yang satu dengan negara
yang lain. Sebab itu sesuatu negara mungkin lebih untung mengimport sesuatu
barang daripada menghasilkan sendiri. Dengan adanya perdagangan maka sesuatu
negara dapat memperoleh sejumlah barang dengan harga yang lebih murah daripada
bila barang tersebut dihasilkan sendiri di dalam negeri. Keuntungan lain yang timbul
karena adanya perdagangan adalah bahawa sesuatu negara dapat menghindarkan
diri dari jenis produksi sesuatu barang yang harga biayanya realtif tinggi karena
jarangnya (scarce) factor-faktor produksi yang dibutuhkan tersedia secara cukup,
dan kemudian berdagang . Akhirnya dengna timbulnya perdagangan maka bagi
Negara-negara yang bersangkutan akan saling dapat memperoleh sejumlah barang
dengan total cost yang lebih rendah.
