• In 1707 there wasn’t an accurate way to measure
longitude, captains relied on their estimation for
average speed to make sense how far east or west
they travelled, or dropped a log over the side of the
ship and timed how long it took to float.
• Captain Cloudesley Shovell misestimated the
longitude which led to the drown of the entire
fleet of British ships.1

The whole fleet drowned in 3 minutes.
No one on board the ship survived . 2000 were dead.
5. In today’s business world
• There are only few tools and they lack precision
