We perceive the world based on what we have been taught and our skills only provide certain views, not the full data structure. Smartphones, movies, music and other idioms that appeal to us also tie us to particular views and prevent exploring the underlying data structures. While views provide recognition and resources, getting closer to the raw data by getting "muddy" would be more fun and help add to human understanding.

Before we can begin to consider the evolution of consciousness, we have to ask when consciousness first arose. Are human beings alone conscious, or are other creatures also conscious? Is an animal such as a dog, for example, conscious?
Dogs may not be aware of many of the things we are aware of. They are not conscious of much beyond their immediate world, the world defined by the span of their senses. They know nothing of lands beyond the oceans, or the space beyond the earth. Nor can dogs be aware of much beyond the present time. They know nothing of the course of history, or where it might be headed. They are not aware of their inevitable death in the same way that we are. They do not think to themselves in words, and they probably do not reason as we do. And they do not seem to have the self-awareness that we do; they certainly do not get caught up in concern for their own self-image, with all the strange behaviors that engenders. Each of you possesses the most powerful, dangerous and subversive trait that natural selection has ever devised. It's a piece of neural audio technology for rewiring other people's minds. I'm talking about your language, of course, because it allows you to implant a thought from your mind directly into someone else's mind, and they can attempt to do the same to you, without either of you having to perform surgery. It's just that, whereas that device relies on pulses of infrared light, your language relies on pulses, discrete pulses, of sound.

In fact, the Tower of Babel story in the Bible is a fable and warning about the power of language. According to that story, early humans developed the conceit that, by using their language to work together, they could build a tower that would take them all the way to heaven. Now God, angered at this attempt to usurp his power, destroyed the tower, and then to ensure that it would never be rebuilt, he scattered the people by giving them different languages --confused them by giving them different languages. And this leads to the wonderful irony that our languages exist to prevent us from communicating. Even today, we know that there are words we cannot use, phrases we cannot say, because if we do so, we might be accosted, jailed, or even killed. And all of this from a puff of air emanating from our mouths.

But though we set sail and take a few steps outside our familiar surroundings, we often find a way to take our old ways with us. Letting go of our old habits and perceptions can be daunting. Often, they have worked well in the past, and letting them go can feel as if we are jumping off of a trapeze without a net...or like running out into the street naked.* To compensate, we may vigorously defend our old methods and conceptions, convince ourselves that we have some sort of magical writer’s block, or simply refuse to jump into the unknown for a number of insincere reasons. It’s great to have strong ideas, opinions, and beliefs. Often, they have worked well in the past, and letting them go can feel as if we are jumping off of a trapeze without a net...or like running out into the street naked.* To compensate, we may vigorously defend our old methods and conceptions, convince ourselves that we have some sort of magical writer’s block, or simply refuse to jump into the unknown for a number of insincere reasons. It’s great to have strong ideas, opinions, and beliefs. Perception is Reality
- 1. Perception is Reality… But We can only perceive views, depending on what we have been taught, the stuff we honed and proudly present to the world as 'SKILLS' give us only views. The real data structure is mysteriously tucked in behind the repository of processes and we parrot what those processes tell us. The repository is nothing but a set of idioms, and idioms are the curves which appeal us. Idioms sell. Smart phones are idioms, Movies are idioms, Music, literature, science all are set of idioms. We love the beauty of idioms, but we also get tied to them, may be we love to get tied. The quest to add the views and make something, anything out of those views about the underlying data structures have been the quest of mankind. We keep trying it, but swimming while being tied to explore this ocean is a tough job. I wish we can touch the ground, we can get muddy, we can get closer to the data structures.
