16. Prayer of Confession
P: Let us pray…
Merciful God, when we think of your great faithfulness
and steadfast love,
All: we confess how far we fall short of both.
P: There are times when we judge others by our
standards of faithfulness rather than yours.
All: We confess that there are times when we believe
that our works of faith earn us ‘special
points’ with you.
17. P: And there are even times when we consider that
our faith grows when we speak words about faith without
making that faith evident in and through our lives.
All: We confess also that our busyness can so distract
us that we let opportunities slip by to plant even the
smallest seeds of faith.
P: Forgive us and increase our faith, O God, so that we
can uproot any obstacles which hinder our faithfulness.
This we pray in Jesus’ name.
All: Amen.
18. Assurance of Forgiveness
(based on Lamentations
3:22; 2 Timothy 1:9, 10)
P: Through the steadfast
love and endless mercy of
God, we are saved, not
according to our works,
but according to God’s
purpose and grace - grace
revealed through our
Savior, Jesus Christ.
All: Thanks be to God!
19. Prayer of the Day:
Benevolent, merciful God: When we are
empty, fill us. When we are weak in faith,
strengthen us. When we are cold in love,
warm us, that with fervor we may love our
neighbors and serve them for the sake of
your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.

68. Opening Hymn #533
Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty
Open now thy gates of beauty,
Zion let me enter there,
where my soul in joyful duty
waits for God who answers prayer.
Oh, how blessed is this place,
filled with solace, light, and grace!
69. Gracious God, I come before thee;
come thou also unto me;
Where we find Thee and adore Thee,
there a heav'n on earth must be.
To my heart, oh, enter thou,
let it be thy temple now!
70. Here thy praise is gladly chanted,
here thy seed is duly sown;
let my soul, where it is planted,
bring forth precious sheaves alone,
so that all I hear may be
fruitful unto life in me.
71. Thou my faith increase and quicken,
let me keep thy gift divine;
howsoe'er temptations thicken,
may thy word still o'er me shine
as my guiding star through life,
as my comfort in all strife.
72. Speak, O God, and I will hear Thee,
let thy will be done indeed;
may I undisturbed draw near thee
while thou dost Thy people feed.
Here of life the fountain flows;
here is balm for all our woes.

he descended
to the dead.
97. On the third day
he rose again;
he ascended
into heaven,
he is seated
at the right hand
of the Father,
and he will come
again to judge the
living and the dead.

the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection
of the body,
and the life

104. Communion Hymn #502
The King of Love My Shepherd Is
The King of love my shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am his
and he is mine forever.
105. Where streams of living water flow,
my ransomed soul he leadeth
and, where the verdant pastures
grow, with food celestial feedeth.
106. Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
but yet in love he sought me,
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing, brought me.
107. In death's dark vale I fear no ill,
with thee, dear Lord, beside me,
thy rod and staff my comfort still;
thy cross before to guide me.
108. Thou spreadst a table in my sight;
thine unction grace bestoweth;
and, oh, what transport of delight
from thy pure chalice floweth!
109. And so, through all the length of
days, thy goodness faileth never.
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy
praise within thy house forever!
110.

Let all cry aloud and honor the Son.
The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
fall down on their faces,
and worship the Lamb.
