This document summarizes a presentation on updates to pediatric sedation guidelines. It reviews current sedation guidelines, risks and safety data, and common and uncommon sedation medications. Safety data from studies on sedation with propofol and dexmedetomidine are presented. New evidence and paradigms around who can provide sedation and credentialing requirements are discussed. The talk concludes that pediatric sedation is a dynamic field still lacking rigorous standards and oversight.
