2. What is the PDLC
The Professional Development Leadership Conference (PDLC)
is dedicated to developing a holistic community-centric
program in pursuit of enhancing the development of African
societies.
These Conferences are centered on the progression and
challenges of development occurring within the African
continent
3. African Youth Initiative
AYI’S objectives to the Professional Development
Leadership conference’s are for members to learn
the framework of U.N. committees and deliberate on
topics that are germane to the enhancement of local
communities within the society. During the 3-4 day
conference/seminar sessions, members will draft a
resolution on the topic that was previously set by the
organization. If the resolution passes it must be
rendered unto local communities or that of which is
applicable to the improvement and progression of
society.
4. African Youth Initiative
Objectives
Debates are intended to spark participant’s ideas for
change within communities that will then be carried out
by the participants
5. We aspire for our participants to walk out the door
with three types of opportunities.
Educational opportunities: Working at institutions abroad,
distance & local learning opportunities, NGOs, Research &
fellowships.
Building Communities from the Grassroots: Consists of
application of basic community development concepts,
methods and practical skills for involving and empowering
local & international citizens and leaders effectively in
community-based efforts regardless of the issue.
Internships & Employment: Provides youth & students the
opportunity to test their aptitude for a particular career
before permanent commitments are made. They will develop
skills in the application of theory to practical work situations

6. Resolution Development
Conference Aspect
1) Our aim at AYIMUN is for participants to be able to implement the
values of learning, discussing, planning and executing their
resolution’s into real life situations
2) The development of the resolution will be similar to the procedure
of the United Nations resolution development process consisting of
preambulatory and operative clauses. The operative clauses of the
resolution must each consist of 4 short-term goals and 1 long-term
goal. All additional goals are acceptable on condition that four are
completed regardless of how many goals are amended to the
resolution.
7. Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement
BATNA
In Negotiations some realities are difficult to alter and
change
The other party may be in a stronger bargaining position
You may not have the resources needed to achieve a
successful outcome.
Reactions to Power:
Protect yourself against making disadvantageous
agreements
There may be alternatives
8. o What other courses of action are possible for me if we
do not come to an agreement?
o The idea of BATNA is to maximize your position by
having options; it will prevent you from overestimating
the consequences of not agreeing during a committee
session.
