Association of Computing Machinery(ACM)
identified 24 imperatives of professional
conduct of IT professionals.
Professional Ethics in Information Technology
refers to the principles and guidelines that
govern the behavior and responsibilities of
professionals working in the IT field. These
ethics are designed to ensure that IT
professionals act in a morally and socially
responsible manner when dealing with sensitive
information, technology systems, and the impact
of their work on individuals and society as a
whole.
1. Maintain confidentiality and protect
sensitive information.
2. Act with honesty, integrity, and
transparency in all professional
interactions.
3. Strive to enhance professional
competence and technical skills.
4. Respect the privacy and dignity of
individuals and their personal
information.
5. Follow applicable laws, regulations, and professional
standards.
6. Disclose conflicts of interest that may affect objectivity and
impartiality.
7. Take responsibility for the consequences of your actions and
decisions.
8. Safeguard and respect intellectual property rights.
9. Communicate clearly and honestly with clients, colleagues, and
stakeholders.
10. Continuously update knowledge and stay informed about
emerging technologies and trends.
11. Maintain the security and integrity of computer systems and
networks.
12. Promote diversity, inclusivity, and equal opportunities in the IT
industry.
13. Refrain from engaging in discriminatory practices or
behaviors.
14. Be accountable for your work and deliver high-quality,
reliable solutions.
15. Respect and comply with copyright laws and licensing
agreements.
16. Avoid misrepresentation and provide accurate information.
17. Collaborate and cooperate with fellow professionals to
achieve common goals.
18. Consider the social and environmental impacts of IT
solutions.
