3.1	Executive	Summary,	Research	Contributions
a) Executive Summary
During my internship I provided ideas regarding the communication of the events from
Climate Wave Enterprises, as well as ideas of entertainment for future events and provided
help in any area that I was requested to. Although there were challenges during this period,
the Internship inspired me in the environmental field and gave me values that will always be
present in my life. Personally and professionally I was able to see my growth and the increase
of confidence throughout the Internship, learning things that I would both repeat in the future,
and that I need to change in order to work in an organization. The Ecological Systems Theory
also served to reflect on how one area of society and environment had a direct impact on
someone’s behavior and the importance on identifying the issues and do something to change
it. The key point is that helping others is rewarding and to see the positive outcomes of it, is
even more rewarding.
Literature played an important role in my internship. I had to do plenty of research on green
event practices within books and journal articles that helped me develop the proper tools for
the organization. However, in order to do my work but also reflect on the Internship as a
personal and professional experience, the modules of the course were important to reflect the
experience in a different aspect (Griffith University, n.d). The Griffith graduate attributes set
some guidelines on how to work with communities and the professional side and I believe I
improved many of the areas listed on it.
3.2	Project	or	Role
My role in Climate Wave Enterprises was to help with the event that will be held on
November at the Sunshine Coast. It was a long process, as I had to conduct a lot of research
on Green Events and Marketing practices to match with the purpose of my Internship and
7
also because it was not an area that I had knowledge in. During my internship I became more
aware of the environment and started paying more attention to sustainable practices in events
that I participated in and also on the information that my supervisor was updating on
Facebook about sustainability. I wrote a document with information on how to set up a Green
Event divided by sections and based on research: Place; Transportation; Community;
Structures: logistics, exhibition and offices; Catering; Audiovisual; Communication. The
document also contained communication ideas for the Eco Challenge Event as well as
contacts of entertainers for the event, which I have been in contact throughout the semester
and showed interest in taking part on it. A survey was made to distribute to the public on the
event day. It was based on a previous survey so the organization of the event could keep track
on the public feedback and the changes from one event to the other. The survey was also
complemented with extra questions that I believe were missing in the previous one and can
provide important data for future events. Moreover, one of my ideas for the event day was to
create a trivia related to environmental issues to entertain the public more and educate them
by having fun and socializing with them. The trivia is on the artifacts section of this Report.
From my point of view, Climate Wave Enterprises benefited from my internship as I was
available to help my supervisor when he needed my opinion or help, however I wish I could
have been able to help more and also be present in the event that will be held on November at
the Sunshine Coast.
The outcomes of my internship changed from what I had planned in my Internship Plan. In
the Internship Plan I planned to create a Green Marketing Plan for the event, instead, I
thought it would be more useful for the organization to have ideas on how to communicate
the event and entertainment as when dealing with market green events, the organization is in
my opinion already using all the resources to market and communicate their events.
I enjoyed learning more about sustainable practices in events and the fact that my supervisor
is passionate about his work made me more interested in this area and I learned a lot with the
information that he was updating about the environment and green events. Also, the past
event showed me creative ideas on how to make an event green. The highlight of the event
that personally impacted me and differentiated the event was a very interesting piece of
equipment: was a solar powered sound system made out of bins.

3.3	Critical	Reflection

a) Theorems
The ecological system theory (Bronfenbrenner, 1979) is the theorem that is applicable to my
experience within my Internship and relates to personal growth and development throughout
this semester. I already aimed to achieve personal growth when choosing an organization that
is focused on the community and cares for the environment.
I believe the most important system that shapes the values of a person is the microsystem, as
family has an important role in the formation of ones personality and provides the first values
that a person acquires in their life. However, the exosystem, which encompasses the school,
community, mass media and health agencies, has essential impact on how an individual
behaves (Bronfenbrenner, 1979). The engagement with the community, which is present in
my internship, is enriching and empowers both communities and the person that is helping
(Salvaratman, 2013). By building a sense of community, it acts as a mechanism to stimulate a
healthier development of the environment and the people that inhabit it. It is proved that if a
person lives in a dangerous area or an area the tendency is that the person will behave
according to this environment (Berck & Williams, 1980). Negative characteristics of the
environment or community (litter on the streets, violence, gangs) which the person is
habituated to, can lead to poverty values and social withdrawal (Chavis et. al, 1986)
On the other hand, people that have the perception of their condition can be more motivated
to change the environment and the problems and can form organizations to find solutions for
the problem. I believe that this is the reason why Climate Wave Enterprises exists, as the
discontentment with the environmental problems motivated a group of people to work
towards providing a better place to live. In addition to the importance of the sense of
community and the community itself, mass media plays an important role on changing the
behavior and the values of a person. I believe even though the idea of caring for the
environment still lacks of divulgation in the mass media, there is an increasing trend towards
sustainable practices. On the Internet, for example, the amount of websites, blogs, community
pages that are focusing on community and environment, pose an essential attitude to be able
to positively change a person’s behavior in the short and long-term. In addition, my
9
organization shows a great presence in social media tools, which is not only influencing the
general public, but even myself benefitted from this, which has given me values that I will
carry for the rest of my life.
b) Knowledge
My organization increased my understanding about the community as it is concerned with the
environment and in creating a better community and interaction between members of the
community. The event had many supporters and volunteers and I believe, without the help of
the team, the event would not have been possible. Every member had an important role in it.
See reflective journal excerpt.
“I learned that a ‘real’ sustainable event is very different from what I had previously
experienced in Brazil. In the events that I attended back in Brazil, the appearance of the event
was extremely important, however the interaction between the public and the sense of
community was missing. The Eco Challenge Gold Coast was different. It was simple and
complex at the same time. Simple because the visual part did not have any fancy things and
complex because the community values were very enforced during the event. It was a family
event where everybody was willing to interact with people, share knowledge and the true idea
of community.”
If I were not leaving Australia at the end of this month, I would love to continue my
internship with the organization and be able to help with future events and projects. The
knowledge that I gained from this experience will be very useful in my future career and I
hope to be able to put in practice all the values gained from the Internship and develop more
positive values throughout my personal and professional life. I would like to continue doing
volunteer work in parallel with my future job if I am able to manage my time efficiently.

3.4	Personal	and	Professional	Development
10
a) Personal and Professional growth

This Internship not only added knowledge that I will be able to carry with me in my future
career, but more importantly, in my future as a person. In relation to my personal growth, the
Internship helped me change some habits in my daily life. I learned to be more
environmentally conscious and to care more about the community in general. Time
management was also a factor to prioritize this semester, as I had to manage an agenda with
established times to work in my Internship, and also perform well in six subjects for
university. Another tool that I learned from this experience was that it is necessary to
maintain communication with the supervisor to avoid misunderstandings and problems in the
workplace.
The Griffith Graduate attributes mention ‘the ability to open up to new ideas, experiences and
people’. In my opinion I obtained huge personal growth in relation to this topic. This was
mainly due to the fact that as I never worked with anything related to sustainability, some of
the ideas from the research that I did on Green Events were conflicting with my ideas and
opinions but I learned to be more open to different ways of thinking that until now, I
considered extreme and would of never followed. This slightly changed and I can say that I
adopted some sustainable practices in my own life that I would of never thought about before
this Internship.

b) Values
My motivation on working with Climate Wave Enterprises was to develop not only my
professional skills but also to become a better person and have more sense of care for the
environment and community. I always liked to help people and this increased during the
semester with the material provided in the lectures and also due to my Internship. It is very
grateful to be able to help someone or something (the environment) and this is priceless. As I
mentioned in the Intership Plan, Module 1 shows that money is motivating, but the sense of
community and what people remember about you is even more important in life. I believe I
accomplished it and this experience motivated me to continue helping others and even though
I will have a paid job in my area, my aim is to find a parallel volunteer job to give continuity
to these practices. Michael Jackson’s song “Heal the World” is the one that best describes the
values that I got from this Internship. It links with the sense of community that my
organization reinforces in its philosophy and that by taking small steps towards the wellbeing
11
of others it is possible to heal the world. The values gained in this Internship impacted me as
an individual and helped to shape the professional that I want to be.

Nowadays it is necessary to think about the environment when organizing any type of events
from simple ones, such as meetings and reunions with friends, to festivals. However it is
possible to see many companies greenwashing their events, showing in their advertisement
and promotion that they follow green practices, even though this is only an image as in
practice, the company is not entirely concerned about the environment and sustainable
practices.
These are some guidelines for green events that I did based on previous experience and
research and I believe they will be useful for Climate Wave Enterprises. Following the
guideline, I have some suggestions for the Marketing/ Communication of the event that will
be held in November.
Place&
!
Planning''
! When selecting a place to hold the event, it is better to opt for the one that has a
sustainable approach to match with the event purpose;
! Choose a place that is very accessible for the public;
Transportation&
!
Planning''
! Preferably choose a local supplier to avoid excessive use of cars or other ways of
transportation that can increase pollution;
! Choose suppliers that also have sustainable or green practices;
! If the event provides transportation for the public, try to find one that is appropriate
for people with special conditions;
15

! 4!
! If possible, make the use of electric vehicles, hybrids or biodiesel to transport the
people and/ or material for the event;
! Plan to collect a dataset of activities associated with the transport of freight and
people (eg. miles traveled, type of vehicle and fuel-level used), allowing the
subsequent calculation of the carbon footprint.
Setting'up'the'event'
! Optimize cargo (number of trips vs transport capacity vs routes).
During'the'event'
! Ensure that the best practices set out in the planning phase, are being properly
implemented and monitored;
! In the communication of the event (preferably online), disclose to the participants
channels, information on public transport, such as routes, timetables, discounts and
other initiatives;
! Raise awareness for participants who choose to get to the event in their own car, to
practice eco conduction;
! Provide bicycles or encourage the use of them by participants, wherever possible,
depending on climate and location;
! Promote carpooling on the event website/facebook.
Dismounting'the'event'
! Optimize cargo (number of trips carrying capacity vs vs routes);
Post4Event''
! Quantify the Footprint Carbonic associated with transport cargo and people;
! Communicate the results of Carbonic Footprint;
! Send a message, by email, to thank the participants/partners/public and show the
data about carbon reduction during the event
16

! 5!
Community&
!
Planning'
! Set a plan of interaction and community mobilization that:
- Promotes local employment;
- Empowers with new skills, promotes seeing action training and awareness;
- Promotes the development of the local economy by hiring local suppliers;
- Leverages/promotes the area;
- Promotes gender equality, age, ethnicity and religion;
! Set a plan for inclusion of people with disabilities and/or special conditions;
! Identify actions to achieve each of these objectives;
! Create opportunities of volunteer work with the local community;
! If possible, devise training programs to empower the local community with the
necessary skills to be able to join the working team;
Setting'up'the'event'and'Dismounting'
! Ensure the implementation of the community mobilization plan throughout these
stages.
Post4Event'
! Communicate the results of the interaction and community mobilization plan.
17

! 6!
&
Structures:&logistics,&exhibition&and&offices&
!
!
Planning'
! Plan structures in terms of logistics, exposure and offices considering:
- Local suppliers;
- Suppliers that comply with the environment protection laws
! Use structures and materials that can be reused and / or recycled;
! Consider using more efficient equipment and solutions, integrating infrastructures that
maximize the use of natural lighting;
! Install efficient lighting systems, prioritizing saving lamps (compact fluorescent
lamps, fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts and/or LED) and presence sensors.
Ensure that devices are connected only when there is an effective use;
! Study and compare infrastructure solutions considering the materials life cycle;
! Use reusable modular structures in infrastructure construction, set design and
decoration, preferring reusable and /or recyclable material and ensuring their proper
management after the event.
Setting'up'the'event'
! Ensure that the best practices set out in the planning stage are being implemented and
monitored properly.
! Promote proper waste separation, during and after the event;
! Carry out the plan of reduction of waste associated with the preparation of the event;

Post4event'
! Ensure a responsible dismounting and ensure proper management of waste;
18

! 7!
! Donate materials that you would not be able to reuse;
Catering&
!
!
Planning'
! Plan a suitable catering service in regards to the dimension of the event;
! Estimate the number of confirmed participants to avoid surpluses of food and drinks,
choosing the most appropriate service for the type of event (buffet, a la carte, etc.)
! Prefer meals with local, seasonal and agricultural products originated from an organic
producer and list the provenience of them in the menu;
! Use products with (environmental and social) certifications which identify sustainable
products or with a reduced environmental impact;
! Donate the surplus to local institutions;
! Promote varied menus (vegan option, vegetarian, gluten free, etc.);
! Upon registration, request information about the specific dietary needs of participants;
! A company must implement sustainable catering practices not only with the food
source but material used to serve the product;
! Employ human resources from local community;
! Use energy efficient equipment;
! Preference for local producers, reducing the carbon footprint associated;
! Opt for the use of water pitchers or water dispensers, instead of water bottles;
! Whenever possible, use reusable and/or recyclable materials. Dishes and containers
based on ceramics and glass; Metal cutlery; Glass cups; Cloth napkins; Recyclable
paper-based straws; Cardboard cups for hot drinks; Recyclable plastic cups for cold
drinks;
! Encourage participants to bring their own material (glass, thermos)
! Choose the use of local flowers or decorative items made locally and where possible,
use of reusable decorations.
During'the'event'
! Ensure proper implementation of the actions highlighted in the catering plan;
19

! 8!

Eco&Challenge&Communication&Ideas&
The idea that I had is to increase public awareness about the event and Climate Wave
Enterprises.
First'Idea'
Step 1: A person takes picture/s of a sustainable practice that they adopted once, or is a
habit in their daily lives. Be creative!
Step 2: They inbox the picture to Climate Wave Enterprises.
Step 3: Climate Wave Enterprises will post the pictures on the event wall.
Step 4: The person has to share it with friends and/or tag them in the picture.
Step 5: The person that has the most “likes” until one day before the event will win a
prize (this could be negotiated with the stalls that are going to be present on the event
day. They might want to promote their product/brand and in exchange, they give a free
product to be given to the winner).
Second'Idea'
Create green souvenirs with the Climate Wave Enterprises logo and contact
information, to promote the company during the event. I bought some things for a
project in this website and they are very reliable (http://www.buyecogreen.com.au/)
Third'Idea'
Do a Trivia during the event in between performances. The questions can be related to
environmental issues and/or to local stalls information. For example, asking people if
they know what is the material used in stall “X” to produce their products. People can
24

! 13!
go and ask them. This would provide more interaction between the public and the
stalls/ organizers and environmental issues, while having fun.
Fourth'Idea'
Calculate the carbon footprint that would be used if sustainable practices were not
used in the event and the final result after the event. Communicate it on the event page
and organization page.
Entertainment&for&the&Eco&Challenge&
- I talked to Luiz, from the Xango Capoeira Group and they are interested in
participating in the event to show their work. His contact:
luiz@xangocapoeira.com.au
- I am currently in contact with a nutritionist from Mandala Organic Arts Café and
he is interested in doing a small workshop of organic/vegan foods. Once he
confirms I’ll be giving his contact infromation to you, so you can contact him and
give more information.
Survey&
!
- I used some of the questions from the previous research, as it is important to compare
results from both events and added new ones that I believe are important. This is the

Dear Greg,
Thanks for taking your time to supervise me. My initial interest was to learn more about
sustainable management practices and, at the conclusion of the intership, it was a very
positive experience as I learned more about green events and sustainable practices that
will be very usefull for my future. One of the main aspects that I will be taking from this
internship is that in order to work with something, it is necessary to be passionate about
it and lead by example and you provided me with this example.
The internship helped me to have a more clear idea of what path I will be taking in my
future career after graduating this semester. Working with the environment and to
protect it, is definetly something that I will take in consideration when choosing a future
job.
I would love to be able to participate on the event that will be held on November, but
unfortunatelly my time in Australia is coming to an end by the end of this semester.
However, I will keep an eye on social media too see pictures and news about the event.
I wish you all the best in your future and in the future of Climate Wave Enterprises.
Sincerely,
Patrizia Bandini

  • 6. 6 3.0 Internship Report Element 3.1 Executive Summary, Research Contributions a) Executive Summary During my internship I provided ideas regarding the communication of the events from Climate Wave Enterprises, as well as ideas of entertainment for future events and provided help in any area that I was requested to. Although there were challenges during this period, the Internship inspired me in the environmental field and gave me values that will always be present in my life. Personally and professionally I was able to see my growth and the increase of confidence throughout the Internship, learning things that I would both repeat in the future, and that I need to change in order to work in an organization. The Ecological Systems Theory also served to reflect on how one area of society and environment had a direct impact on someone’s behavior and the importance on identifying the issues and do something to change it. The key point is that helping others is rewarding and to see the positive outcomes of it, is even more rewarding. Literature played an important role in my internship. I had to do plenty of research on green event practices within books and journal articles that helped me develop the proper tools for the organization. However, in order to do my work but also reflect on the Internship as a personal and professional experience, the modules of the course were important to reflect the experience in a different aspect (Griffith University, n.d). The Griffith graduate attributes set some guidelines on how to work with communities and the professional side and I believe I improved many of the areas listed on it. 3.2 Project or Role My role in Climate Wave Enterprises was to help with the event that will be held on November at the Sunshine Coast. It was a long process, as I had to conduct a lot of research on Green Events and Marketing practices to match with the purpose of my Internship and
  • 7. 7 also because it was not an area that I had knowledge in. During my internship I became more aware of the environment and started paying more attention to sustainable practices in events that I participated in and also on the information that my supervisor was updating on Facebook about sustainability. I wrote a document with information on how to set up a Green Event divided by sections and based on research: Place; Transportation; Community; Structures: logistics, exhibition and offices; Catering; Audiovisual; Communication. The document also contained communication ideas for the Eco Challenge Event as well as contacts of entertainers for the event, which I have been in contact throughout the semester and showed interest in taking part on it. A survey was made to distribute to the public on the event day. It was based on a previous survey so the organization of the event could keep track on the public feedback and the changes from one event to the other. The survey was also complemented with extra questions that I believe were missing in the previous one and can provide important data for future events. Moreover, one of my ideas for the event day was to create a trivia related to environmental issues to entertain the public more and educate them by having fun and socializing with them. The trivia is on the artifacts section of this Report. From my point of view, Climate Wave Enterprises benefited from my internship as I was available to help my supervisor when he needed my opinion or help, however I wish I could have been able to help more and also be present in the event that will be held on November at the Sunshine Coast. The outcomes of my internship changed from what I had planned in my Internship Plan. In the Internship Plan I planned to create a Green Marketing Plan for the event, instead, I thought it would be more useful for the organization to have ideas on how to communicate the event and entertainment as when dealing with market green events, the organization is in my opinion already using all the resources to market and communicate their events. I enjoyed learning more about sustainable practices in events and the fact that my supervisor is passionate about his work made me more interested in this area and I learned a lot with the information that he was updating about the environment and green events. Also, the past event showed me creative ideas on how to make an event green. The highlight of the event that personally impacted me and differentiated the event was a very interesting piece of equipment: was a solar powered sound system made out of bins.
  • 8. 8 3.3 Critical Reflection a) Theorems The ecological system theory (Bronfenbrenner, 1979) is the theorem that is applicable to my experience within my Internship and relates to personal growth and development throughout this semester. I already aimed to achieve personal growth when choosing an organization that is focused on the community and cares for the environment. I believe the most important system that shapes the values of a person is the microsystem, as family has an important role in the formation of ones personality and provides the first values that a person acquires in their life. However, the exosystem, which encompasses the school, community, mass media and health agencies, has essential impact on how an individual behaves (Bronfenbrenner, 1979). The engagement with the community, which is present in my internship, is enriching and empowers both communities and the person that is helping (Salvaratman, 2013). By building a sense of community, it acts as a mechanism to stimulate a healthier development of the environment and the people that inhabit it. It is proved that if a person lives in a dangerous area or an area the tendency is that the person will behave according to this environment (Berck & Williams, 1980). Negative characteristics of the environment or community (litter on the streets, violence, gangs) which the person is habituated to, can lead to poverty values and social withdrawal (Chavis et. al, 1986) On the other hand, people that have the perception of their condition can be more motivated to change the environment and the problems and can form organizations to find solutions for the problem. I believe that this is the reason why Climate Wave Enterprises exists, as the discontentment with the environmental problems motivated a group of people to work towards providing a better place to live. In addition to the importance of the sense of community and the community itself, mass media plays an important role on changing the behavior and the values of a person. I believe even though the idea of caring for the environment still lacks of divulgation in the mass media, there is an increasing trend towards sustainable practices. On the Internet, for example, the amount of websites, blogs, community pages that are focusing on community and environment, pose an essential attitude to be able to positively change a person’s behavior in the short and long-term. In addition, my
  • 9. 9 organization shows a great presence in social media tools, which is not only influencing the general public, but even myself benefitted from this, which has given me values that I will carry for the rest of my life. b) Knowledge My organization increased my understanding about the community as it is concerned with the environment and in creating a better community and interaction between members of the community. The event had many supporters and volunteers and I believe, without the help of the team, the event would not have been possible. Every member had an important role in it. See reflective journal excerpt. “I learned that a ‘real’ sustainable event is very different from what I had previously experienced in Brazil. In the events that I attended back in Brazil, the appearance of the event was extremely important, however the interaction between the public and the sense of community was missing. The Eco Challenge Gold Coast was different. It was simple and complex at the same time. Simple because the visual part did not have any fancy things and complex because the community values were very enforced during the event. It was a family event where everybody was willing to interact with people, share knowledge and the true idea of community.” If I were not leaving Australia at the end of this month, I would love to continue my internship with the organization and be able to help with future events and projects. The knowledge that I gained from this experience will be very useful in my future career and I hope to be able to put in practice all the values gained from the Internship and develop more positive values throughout my personal and professional life. I would like to continue doing volunteer work in parallel with my future job if I am able to manage my time efficiently. 3.4 Personal and Professional Development
  • 10. 10 a) Personal and Professional growth This Internship not only added knowledge that I will be able to carry with me in my future career, but more importantly, in my future as a person. In relation to my personal growth, the Internship helped me change some habits in my daily life. I learned to be more environmentally conscious and to care more about the community in general. Time management was also a factor to prioritize this semester, as I had to manage an agenda with established times to work in my Internship, and also perform well in six subjects for university. Another tool that I learned from this experience was that it is necessary to maintain communication with the supervisor to avoid misunderstandings and problems in the workplace. The Griffith Graduate attributes mention ‘the ability to open up to new ideas, experiences and people’. In my opinion I obtained huge personal growth in relation to this topic. This was mainly due to the fact that as I never worked with anything related to sustainability, some of the ideas from the research that I did on Green Events were conflicting with my ideas and opinions but I learned to be more open to different ways of thinking that until now, I considered extreme and would of never followed. This slightly changed and I can say that I adopted some sustainable practices in my own life that I would of never thought about before this Internship. b) Values My motivation on working with Climate Wave Enterprises was to develop not only my professional skills but also to become a better person and have more sense of care for the environment and community. I always liked to help people and this increased during the semester with the material provided in the lectures and also due to my Internship. It is very grateful to be able to help someone or something (the environment) and this is priceless. As I mentioned in the Intership Plan, Module 1 shows that money is motivating, but the sense of community and what people remember about you is even more important in life. I believe I accomplished it and this experience motivated me to continue helping others and even though I will have a paid job in my area, my aim is to find a parallel volunteer job to give continuity to these practices. Michael Jackson’s song “Heal the World” is the one that best describes the values that I got from this Internship. It links with the sense of community that my organization reinforces in its philosophy and that by taking small steps towards the wellbeing
  • 11. 11 of others it is possible to heal the world. The values gained in this Internship impacted me as an individual and helped to shape the professional that I want to be.

  • 14. 14 ! 3! Nowadays it is necessary to think about the environment when organizing any type of events from simple ones, such as meetings and reunions with friends, to festivals. However it is possible to see many companies greenwashing their events, showing in their advertisement and promotion that they follow green practices, even though this is only an image as in practice, the company is not entirely concerned about the environment and sustainable practices. These are some guidelines for green events that I did based on previous experience and research and I believe they will be useful for Climate Wave Enterprises. Following the guideline, I have some suggestions for the Marketing/ Communication of the event that will be held in November. Place& ! Planning'' ! When selecting a place to hold the event, it is better to opt for the one that has a sustainable approach to match with the event purpose; ! Choose a place that is very accessible for the public; Transportation& ! Planning'' ! Preferably choose a local supplier to avoid excessive use of cars or other ways of transportation that can increase pollution; ! Choose suppliers that also have sustainable or green practices; ! If the event provides transportation for the public, try to find one that is appropriate for people with special conditions;
  • 15. 15 ! 4! ! If possible, make the use of electric vehicles, hybrids or biodiesel to transport the people and/ or material for the event; ! Plan to collect a dataset of activities associated with the transport of freight and people (eg. miles traveled, type of vehicle and fuel-level used), allowing the subsequent calculation of the carbon footprint. Setting'up'the'event' ! Optimize cargo (number of trips vs transport capacity vs routes). During'the'event' ! Ensure that the best practices set out in the planning phase, are being properly implemented and monitored; ! In the communication of the event (preferably online), disclose to the participants channels, information on public transport, such as routes, timetables, discounts and other initiatives; ! Raise awareness for participants who choose to get to the event in their own car, to practice eco conduction; ! Provide bicycles or encourage the use of them by participants, wherever possible, depending on climate and location; ! Promote carpooling on the event website/facebook. Dismounting'the'event' ! Optimize cargo (number of trips carrying capacity vs vs routes); Post4Event'' ! Quantify the Footprint Carbonic associated with transport cargo and people; ! Communicate the results of Carbonic Footprint; ! Send a message, by email, to thank the participants/partners/public and show the data about carbon reduction during the event
  • 16. 16 ! 5! Community& ! Planning' ! Set a plan of interaction and community mobilization that: - Promotes local employment; - Empowers with new skills, promotes seeing action training and awareness; - Promotes the development of the local economy by hiring local suppliers; - Leverages/promotes the area; - Promotes gender equality, age, ethnicity and religion; ! Set a plan for inclusion of people with disabilities and/or special conditions; ! Identify actions to achieve each of these objectives; ! Create opportunities of volunteer work with the local community; ! If possible, devise training programs to empower the local community with the necessary skills to be able to join the working team; Setting'up'the'event'and'Dismounting' ! Ensure the implementation of the community mobilization plan throughout these stages. Post4Event' ! Communicate the results of the interaction and community mobilization plan.

Install efficient lighting systems, prioritizing saving lamps (compact fluorescent lamps, fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts and/or LED) and presence sensors. Ensure that devices are connected only when there is an effective use; ! Study and compare infrastructure solutions considering the materials life cycle; ! Use reusable modular structures in infrastructure construction, set design and decoration, preferring reusable and /or recyclable material and ensuring their proper management after the event. Setting'up'the'event' ! Ensure that the best practices set out in the planning stage are being implemented and monitored properly. ! Promote proper waste separation, during and after the event; ! Carry out the plan of reduction of waste associated with the preparation of the event; ! Buy or rent office equipment from local suppliers. Post4event' ! Ensure a responsible dismounting and ensure proper management of waste;
  • 18. 18 ! 7! ! Donate materials that you would not be able to reuse; Catering& ! ! Planning' ! Plan a suitable catering service in regards to the dimension of the event; ! Estimate the number of confirmed participants to avoid surpluses of food and drinks, choosing the most appropriate service for the type of event (buffet, a la carte, etc.) ! Prefer meals with local, seasonal and agricultural products originated from an organic producer and list the provenience of them in the menu; ! Use products with (environmental and social) certifications which identify sustainable products or with a reduced environmental impact; ! Donate the surplus to local institutions; ! Promote varied menus (vegan option, vegetarian, gluten free, etc.); ! Upon registration, request information about the specific dietary needs of participants; ! A company must implement sustainable catering practices not only with the food source but material used to serve the product; ! Employ human resources from local community; ! Use energy efficient equipment; ! Preference for local producers, reducing the carbon footprint associated; ! Opt for the use of water pitchers or water dispensers, instead of water bottles; ! Whenever possible, use reusable and/or recyclable materials. • 23. 23 ! 12! Eco&Challenge&Communication&Ideas& The idea that I had is to increase public awareness about the event and Climate Wave Enterprises. First'Idea' Step 1: A person takes picture/s of a sustainable practice that they adopted once, or is a habit in their daily lives. Be creative! Step 2: They inbox the picture to Climate Wave Enterprises. Step 3: Climate Wave Enterprises will post the pictures on the event wall. Step 4: The person has to share it with friends and/or tag them in the picture. Step 5: The person that has the most “likes” until one day before the event will win a prize (this could be negotiated with the stalls that are going to be present on the event day. They might want to promote their product/brand and in exchange, they give a free product to be given to the winner). Second'Idea' Create green souvenirs with the Climate Wave Enterprises logo and contact information, to promote the company during the event. I bought some things for a project in this website and they are very reliable (http://www.buyecogreen.com.au/) Third'Idea' Do a Trivia during the event in between performances. The questions can be related to environmental issues and/or to local stalls information. For example, asking people if they know what is the material used in stall “X” to produce their products. People can
  • 24. 24 ! 13! go and ask them. This would provide more interaction between the public and the stalls/ organizers and environmental issues, while having fun. Fourth'Idea' Calculate the carbon footprint that would be used if sustainable practices were not used in the event and the final result after the event. Communicate it on the event page and organization page. Entertainment&for&the&Eco&Challenge& - I talked to Luiz, from the Xango Capoeira Group and they are interested in participating in the event to show their work. His contact: luiz@xangocapoeira.com.au - I am currently in contact with a nutritionist from Mandala Organic Arts Café and he is interested in doing a small workshop of organic/vegan foods. Once he confirms I’ll be giving his contact infromation to you, so you can contact him and give more information. Survey& ! - I used some of the questions from the previous research, as it is important to compare results from both events and added new ones that I believe are important. • 28. 28 5.0 Reflective Journal Students must use the Reflective Journal tool (private) on Learning@Griffith. 6.0 Internship Report Assessment Rubric Unsatisfactory Satisfactory Good Excellent A. General layout The Internship Report seems to be just a collection of items/comments with no plan to its presentation. There may be a contents list and some evidence of structure but not much evidence of thought being put into how the different elements of the Internship Report fit together. The structure is good, the contents are clearly identified, and elements have some alignment with each other. The Internship Report has been well planned and it is easy to link the various parts of the Internship Report and see alignment between the various elements. X B. Spelling, grammar, references Spelling is poor, English expression makes it hard to understand the document, instructions have not been removed from original document, referencing (if appropriate) was not used, all sections not complete. There are few spelling errors, English expression (while not perfect) is understandable, referencing is provided, all sections are complete but not comprehensive. There are no spelling errors, English expression (even if not perfect for NESB students) can be well understood, referencing is appropriately used, all sections are complete with good descriptions. English expression (even if not perfect for NESB students) is very good and leads the reader through the document in a way that makes it easy to understood what the student is trying to say, all sections comprehensively covered. X C. Role/ activity/ artefact. The student has not given a good account of their role/ activity/ artefact and what could have been achieved during the internship. Student is aware of what was required as internship outcomes, but seemed unable to clearly work through the planning/ resources/ communication activities that could have enabled the internship to be more successful. Student has shown that they were well aware of requirements of internship, but areas of planning/ resources/ communication were less developed than they could have been for a more successful internship result. The student has evidenced not just an excellent understanding of what was required in the internship, but has been able to demonstrate an appropriately detailed response that demonstrates planning that ensured good outcomes. X D. Alignment of professional and personal growth and values with role/activity. The student may have selected elements of personal or professional growth that interest them, but they have not been able to identify clearly how they were developed through the activities of the internship or The elements of professional and personal growth that were selected align with the internship activities but student has not been able to describe well how such growth was achieved, or how Student demonstrates a good understanding of the areas of professional and personal growth that occurred through the internship, but could have more clearly been able to The student demonstrates a good understanding of the professional and personal growth that occurred through the internship and has very well aligned those areas of growth, including

X E. Critical reflections. Student shows poor understanding of the research, theorems and how they contributed to an understanding of the internship activities. Student could identify the elements in the activity that could be viewed through theorems but has not demonstrated more than a surface understanding of the alignment of a theory with their activities. Student has clearly identified the relevant theorem that can be used to view their internship and has applied the theorem at a surface level. Student has clearly identified the relevant theorem that can be used to view their internship and has provided a well- integrated description of how their chosen theorem can be applied to their internship. X F. Reflections The student has not provided sufficient evidence of reflective journaling through the internship. The student has been able to demonstrate reflective journaling, but does not appear to have overtly drawn on those reflections in the writing of the report. The student has effectively and clearly demonstrated that their reflective journaling had an impact on how they wrote their report. The student effectively and clearly aligns their reflective journaling while on the internship experience and hence can clearly demonstrate the learning acquired in the internship. X
  • 30. 30 7.0 Letter of Thanks Patrizia Bandini 3101/96 Edmund Rice Drive Southport, QLD, 4215 0452210049 patriziabandini@hotmail.com 15th of June, 2014 Greg Howell Owner Climate Wave Enterprises 3/12 Wagawn St Tugun, QLD, 4224 Dear Greg, Thanks for taking your time to supervise me. My initial interest was to learn more about sustainable management practices and, at the conclusion of the intership, it was a very positive experience as I learned more about green events and sustainable practices that will be very usefull for my future. One of the main aspects that I will be taking from this internship is that in order to work with something, it is necessary to be passionate about it and lead by example and you provided me with this example. The internship helped me to have a more clear idea of what path I will be taking in my future career after graduating this semester. Working with the environment and to protect it, is definetly something that I will take in consideration when choosing a future job. I would love to be able to participate on the event that will be held on November, but unfortunatelly my time in Australia is coming to an end by the end of this semester. However, I will keep an eye on social media too see pictures and news about the event. I wish you all the best in your future and in the future of Climate Wave Enterprises. Sincerely, Patrizia Bandini
