up in the cooling system.

thermostat, heater core, and
water pump.

temperature, the thermostat is
placed at the end of the bottom
radiator hose and directly
regulates the flow of water
through the cooling system.

8. When the engine reaches ideal
operating temperature, the
thermostat opens and allows
the cooling system to flow
freely.

stops working properly, too
much pressure is put on
the thermostat, often
causing it to stop working.

the valve inside gets stuck
either open or closed and this
will result in the overheating or
under-heating of the engine.

the heater core has a similar
network of small gauge
tubing, which works to
produce hot air for the
heating system.

stuck in the small tubing
of the heater core.

pressure and temperatures

the heater core to break.

floorboards may feel wet

heater core starts to leak.

impeller to continuously
move the coolant through
the hoses and passageways
of the cooling system.

debris breaking away from the
radiator will cause abrasions
and other damage to the
plastic impeller.

19. When the radiator stops
cooling the fluid before it
moves past the impeller, the
high temperatures could also
cause damage to the plastic
parts.

20. Eventually, pieces of the
rotating impeller will
break off and disrupt the
flow speed of the coolant.
