Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) are approaches used by organizations for international development to incorporate local rural community knowledge and opinions into management of development projects and programs. PRA advocates that rural communities themselves can provide solutions to their own problems, while RRA involves multidisciplinary teams conducting semi-structured field research to form new hypotheses about rural life and obtain information quickly from multiple perspectives. Both aim to avoid biases by directly involving local people and obtaining their input and knowledge through techniques like participatory mapping, modeling daily activities, and diagrams.

Participatory technology development (PTD) is an approach where farmers collaborate with researchers in developing and testing new farming techniques. It involves five phases: building trust between farmers and researchers, identifying problems and potential solutions, designing experiments, conducting trials, and sharing results. PTD aims to improve adoption of technologies by incorporating farmers' knowledge and ensuring technologies are adapted to local conditions. It emphasizes an iterative process of joint learning where farmers take the lead in experimentation.

The document discusses various sources of energy, dividing them into conventional and non-conventional sources. Conventional sources include fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and natural gas. These are used in thermal power plants to produce electricity. Hydro power plants use the kinetic energy of flowing water for electricity. Non-conventional sources include solar, wind, biomass, tidal, geothermal and nuclear energy. These provide alternatives to fossil fuels and many are renewable but also have challenges like cost, land use or waste disposal.
