In my presentation I want to tell you about the history of
Paralympic Games and about the poster I would like to create.
The hero of my poster is Yuri Nosulenko. He is a Russian
disability athlete. I chose him, because he is strong, young,
                  persistent and charismatic.
History
The first Games for athletes with a disability were held in 1948 in
Stoke Mandeville, England. On the day of the Opening Ceremony
of the 1948 Olympic Games in London, the Stoke Mandeville
Games were launched and the first competition for wheelchair
was organized. Four years later, atheletes from the Netherlands
joined the Games; thus the international movement, now known
as the Paralympic movement, was born
Olympic style games for athletes with a disability were organized
for the first time in Rome in 1960, immediately after Olympic
Games. They are considered the first Paralympic Games. About
4000 athletes from 23 countries competed in 8 sports. 6 of
them are still included in the Paralympic Games. The Paralympic
Games have been held in the same year as the Olympic Games,
                    but usually in another country.
A new page in Paralympic history was written when, in 1988, the
Paralympic Games were held immediately following the Olympic
Games in Seoul, Korea, using the same facilities as the Olympic
Games. Since this date the Summer and Winter Paralympic
Games have followed the Olympic Games using the same
stadiums, village and in many cases sponsors and organizational
                             structures.
Paralympic Games in London 2012
The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games will be the
fourteenth Paralympics and will take place between 29 August and 9
September 2012. The Games will be held in London, United Kingdom.
This was the third time, when London organized Olympic and
Paralympic Games. The first Games were in 1908, and second Games
were in 1948. The program of the Paralympic Games - 2012 included 20
                           kinds of sports.
Our Russian disability athletes

   For a lot of Russian
   sportsmen it would
  be a great honour to
  take part in London
   Paralympic Games.
   And one of Russian
   disability athletes
that will try to be a
  Paralympic champion
 is Yuri Nosulenko. He
 is from Belgorod. He
    is 24 years old.
Tragic accident

  When Yuri was nine
  years old a tragic
accident happened to
   him. He found a
     bullet and it
exploded in his palm.
 Doctors couldn’t do
anything and his left
hand was amputated.
  Yuri was keen on
 running since he was
 a child and after an
     accident he
continued to go in for
        sports.
He is the champion of Russia and World champion in track and field
athletics for sportsmen with disorders of musculoskeletal
                               system.
In 2008, Yuri Nosulenko took part in the XIII Paralympic
Games in Beijing. He was the fourth, but he became the first
athlete from Belgorod, who took part in this competition.
In 2009, Yuri
 took part in the
      World
   Championship,
 which was held in
  India. He won a
gold medal. In the
   same year, he
 took part in the
      World
 Championship in
 New Zealand. He
was the fourth.
“My main goal is
     to win a
 Paralympic gold
   medal, – said
 Yuri Nosulenko
 - I inclined to
 get it. I’ve got
     relevant
experience. The
   mistakes of
   Beijing were
 corrected. And
    my age is
  appropriate –
 24 years old. I
  am in my best
      shape.”
In May 2011 Yuri took
  part in Paralympic
      World Cup in
      Manchester
  (England). Then he
 started to train for
the Paralympic Games
    in London 2012.
Poster
I think in my poster there should be a lot of images of athletes
with disabilities from different coutries and different kinds
of sports. And of course it should be an image of Yuri
Nosulenko with his medals in the centre.
I think that
   if young
 people with
 disabilities
    see my
poster, they
      will
 understand
  that they
    can do
  something
  special to
change their
     lives.
My slogan:

 It doesn’t matter,
   that you have
disability, if you try
 hard enough, your
life will change for
    the better!
