1) In response to India's first nuclear test in 1974, Pakistan launched a nuclear program called Project-706 under Dr. AQ Khan to develop nuclear weapons capability. 2) Pakistan conducted underground nuclear tests on May 28th and 30th, 1998 near Balochistan in response to nuclear tests by India and threats to Pakistan's sovereignty. 3) The nuclear tests established Pakistan as the 7th nuclear power in the world and the first Muslim nuclear state, achieving nuclear deterrence against India.
