Proofing Checklist
Images: Are all images present and correct?
Bar Codes: Are all the bar code numbers correct and within acceptable scaling
tolerances*?
Varnish-free Areas: Are all the areas that will need to be overprinted varnish
free and indicated on the proof (such as the Best Before date area for food/
drink products)?
Special Finishes: Are all special finishes that are required (such as spot UV var-
nishes, embossing, gold foiling etc.) indicated on the proof?
Logos: Are all the logos correct?
Allergens: Are all allergens shown in bold?
Ingredients: Is the list of ingredients correct for content and does it meet FIR re-
quirements* (where applicable)?
Dimensions/Keyline:* Does the keyline on the proof represent the approved
sample for panel sizes and orientation ?
Orientation: Is the orientation of each side of the packaging correct i.e. when
the packaging is folded and glued, check that
: all the text, images etc. are facing the correct way up
: no element (i.e. text/design/barcode) is covered by the outer panels or flaps
Colours: Have all the correct colours been used?
Note: To ensure non-printable artwork files are avoided or detected before they have been
accepted for processing, “Pre-Flight” checking should be completed by the agency origi-
nating the artwork files. Errors discovered at the printing preparation stage may cause
unnecessary delay to the job.
