DORSOPATHIES
INTRODUCTION
• cervical disc disorders, cervical disc disorders with
radiculopathy, thoracic,thoracolumbar intervertebral disc
disorders, schmorl’s nodes etc all are comes under other
dorsopathies
CERVICAL DISC DISORDERS
• Cervical degenerative disc disease is a common cause of neck
pain and radiating arm pain. It develops when one or more of
the cushioning discs in the cervical spine starts to break down
due to wear and tear.
• Schmorl’s nodes are protrusions of the nucleus pulposus of
the intervertebral disc through the vertebral
body endplate and into the adjacent vertebra
• Dorsalgia is a group of disorders characterized by mild,
moderate or intense pain that emerges from
muscles nerves bones joints or other structures associated
with spine.
• Radiculopathy refers to a set of conditions in which one or
more nerves are affected and do not work properly
(a neuropathy). The location of the injury is at the level of
the nerve root. This can result in pain (radicular pain),
weakness, numbness, or difficulty controlling specific muscles.
• Cervicalgia is neck pain that occurs toward the rear or the side
of the cervical vertebrae. It generally is felt as discomfort or a
sharp pain in the neck, upper back or shoulders.
• Sciatica is a medical condition characterized by pain going
down the leg from the lower back
ICD-10-CM GUIDELINES
• Conditions which are due to the result of previous injury or
trauma of a specific site or recurrent conditions use M-code
• Acute injuries are reported with-s codes
• For active treatment use 7th character-A
• For after care use 7th character-D
• For sequlla use 7th character-S
• For pathological fractures use-M codes
• Without current fracture use category-M81
• With current fracture use category-M80
• After managing the fracture 4 types of stages may involve
• Routine healing
• Delayed healing
• Mal union healing
• Non union healing
• Cervical disc disorders-M50
• Thoracic, thoracolumbar, and lumbosacral intervertebral disc
disorders-M51
• Other and unspecified dorsopathies, not elsewhere classified-
M53
• Dorsalgia- M54
