Editor's Notes

  • #3 The main activity of our organization is granting the protection titles for inventions, trademarks, geographical indications, designs, topographies of semiconductor products and utility models at national levels. On the other hand, OSIM has to ensure harmonization of the national legislative framework with international and European regulations in the industrial property protection field.
  • #4 Regarding the patents, OSIM registers and examines the applications in the industrial property field, to grant protection titles. A patent is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the legal right to exclude others from making, using, or selling an invention for a limited period of time in exchange for publishing an enabling disclosure of the invention.
  • #5 OSIM is also the depositary of the national registers trademarks. A trademark is a type of intellectual property consisting of a recognizable sign, design or expression that identifies products or services from a particular source and distinguishes them from others.
  • #6 A geographical indication is a name or sign used on products which corresponds to a specific geographical location or origin (e.g., a town, region, or country). The use of a geographical indication, as an indication of the product's source, is intended as a certification that the product possesses certain qualities, is made according to traditional methods, or enjoys a good reputation due to its geographical origin.
