Life on Earth is thought to have originated around 3.5 billion years ago through natural processes. It was once believed that life could spontaneously generate from nonliving things, but experiments by Pasteur and Miller disproved this theory of spontaneous generation by showing that sterile nutrient broths and mixtures remained lifeless without the introduction of living organisms.
