1. The Media Center is open 10 minutes before school and 15 minutes after school. You may check out books, return books, use the computers or do homework.

3. The circulation desk is where you check out books. Be prepared to say the first three letters of your last name.
4. This is where you return books and other items you have borrowed from the Media Center. It is located next to the circulation desk. Be sure to return items on time so that others may enjoy them.
5. There are about 17,000 books in the Terrill Media Center! The titles are listed in the card catalog. Students need to know how to find these books so they can read and use them. Books are powerful information tools!
6. Many books are always on display. Feel free to browse and check them out.
7. This is the fiction section. Books are arranged alphabetically by the authors’ last name.
8. You might see these stickers on the spine of Some of the fiction books. By looking at these Stickers you can tell the genre of the book.
9. This is the biography section. Books are arranged by the last name of the person the book is about.
10. Encyclopedias are located across from the Circulation desk. They may be checked out for two days. Encyclopedias are a good place to begin your research.
11. This is the reference section. You will find encyclopedias on many different subjects, dictionaries, and atlases.
12. This is the nonfiction section. Books are arranged by Dewey Decimal Number.
13. This is the magazine section. Magazines may be checked out for one week.
14. When you check out a magazine it will be put in a plastic bag like this. The bag is to protect the magazine from wear and tear. Please return the magazine in its bag.
15. On this cart you will find audio books. We also loan tape players. These can be checked out for two weeks, the same as books.
16. Card Catalog computers are available in various sections of the Media Center. You can look up a book by keyword, author, or title. You can also access the Card Catalog from home at http://lib.spfk12.org
17. The Dewey Decimal System uses numbers to classify or organize subjects of books so that they are easy to find on the shelves. Melvin Dewey invented the system used to decide what call number goes on the book.
18. This is the Series notebook. If you want to know the order of the books in a series, just check this notebook.
19. Computers with Internet access are available for schoolwork only. Remember to sign the Acceptable Use Policy!
