Operation Onward Liberty (OOL) is a U.S. military-led team that mentors and advises the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) to develop a professional military. OOL aims to assist the AFL in building a force that can provide security and respect civilian rule. The 2003 peace agreement called for U.S. restructuring of the AFL, which was completely rebuilt from the ground up. U.S. contractors and personnel demobilized the old AFL and established a new 2,000 member force. Now, OOL with around 50 personnel continues mentoring the AFL to gain public trust as a responsible force for stability in Liberia.
