think of opal as glass, even if it is not glass but similar. Keeping it in mind will prevent
damage. Mild dishes can be easily cleaned with detergent at room temperature. Use a very
soft brush or your fingers to take the body oil and dirt off the jewellery. Wash and dry. This is
a great time to check and make sure the stone is safe and tight in setting.Heat and cold can
damage an opal. Usually, if there is a sudden and extreme change in temperature, an opal
can be damaged. It is like heating a stone quickly with a flame..zap, like other stones it will
break. Daily temperature changes will be safe. Take care in extreme cases like drowning in
a frozen pond from Sana! Such temperature changes can damage rocks. Safe for everyday
wear.
I would not jump into the hot shower when I came out of the cold wearing opal. Simply
remove the ring and place it outside the bath first. This “soap dirt” is very difficult to clean
and keeps the stone clean by avoiding potentially dangerous sudden heat changes.Avoid
abrasives. Like abrasive sandpaper. Things that scratch the glass will scratch an opal. If you
