be able to prepare basic tax returns for our EITC program. I
worked with low-income individuals to get their tax returns
submitted. Working with the adult education department, I
would gather and distribute materials necessary for both the
morning and evening GED classes, help clients decide on
testing dates and identify their subject strengths and
weaknesses, and tutored students one-on-one with reading,
writing, social studies, science, and math practice/lessons.

Costa Rica Study Abroad & Community
Service (Jan 2013)
 This study abroad experience was one of service and culture
and took place during my Winter Break. I was very excited to
have been selected along with 19 other students. The
application process was highly selective, and my fellow
classmates and I raised close to $2,000 for the community
service aspect of the trip. I lived with a host family for 3
weeks in Santa Ana in order to become submerged in the
local culture. For the first half of this trip, we traveled to a
local school to take Spanish classes during the day. The
second half of the trip was spent volunteering in a poor
community. We helped clean up a park for the children who
lived in the community, played games & sports with the
children, taught them some English, and set up activities for
them to participate in and win gifts.
Juvenile Justice Program of the District Attorney’s
Office, Lawrence, Intern
(Sept-Nov. 2012)
 Interned with the diversion program. I sat in on
intakes, opened cases, closed cases, filed and retrieved
documents, checked the progress of people involved in the
program, obtained signatures from ADAs in order to divert
the person, case management, and juvenile courtroom
observation. On occasion, I followed the ADAs around in
adult court and helped them out by grabbing files for them
from the DA’s office or bringing a file to a victim/witness
advocate to have them do an intake. I also interacted with the
Juvenile Probation and Clerk’s office by going there to check
for information, files, to see if someone checked in that we
were diverting, or to bring a case forward/advance it because
the person picked up a new charge or did something to make
themselves no longer eligible for diversion.

(Jan 2012)
 Interned in the education room with groups of children aged
5-13yrs old. Helped make sure the children understood and
completed all of their homework assignments. I read to the
kids and tried to get them involved and interested in
fun, educational projects. Rewarded hard work and genuine
effort shown. Supervised the kids during dinnertime. Ensured
that all of the children kept their belongings together and
didn’t forget to take them home.

 Interned for the Clerk’s office under Mr. Todd Dimino. I
mostly stayed in Session1 small claims court room and
observed the activity and interaction of the staff. Observed
and took notes on trials, interviewed attorneys, and helped
out with small tasks.
