PCBs were discovered in a water treatment plant in the Pacific Northwest, presenting countless challenges for the organization. Their initial response was to prioritize confirmation sampling, assemble a response team, and initiate communications to stakeholders about employee safety, regulations, financial impacts, community outreach, environmental cleanup, prevention efforts, and identifying the source of the PCBs. Over time, the plant implemented safety measures, conducted sampling to find the source, addressed regulatory issues, and established prevention protocols to handle similar situations in the future.
