Inject the Web into your GStreamer pipeline with WPE using a GStreamer/WebKit...Igalia
By Philippe Normand.
This lightning talk will showcase a new GStreamer plugin that allows applications to overlay HTML pages on top of video content. This plugin also allows to capture and interact with an HTML page in a live GStreamer pipeline, for recording purposes for instance.
Overlaying content on top of live video is common practice in the broadcasting industry nowadays. What if you could use HTML and Javascript for your overlay implementations? This would be possible with GStreamer and WebKit's WPE port
combined in a GStreamer plugin.
GstWPE receives EGLImages from WPE and shares them as GstMemory objects attached to buffers injected into the pipeline. This approach enables applications to perform overlaying directly in the GPU using shaders. Alternatively the EGLImages can be downloaded to the CPU main memory using the GStreamer gldownload element and processed there.
GStreamer is an extremely powerful and versatile framework for creating streaming media applications. WPE WebKit allows embedders to create simple and performant systems based on Web platform technologies. It is designed with hardware acceleration in mind, leveraging common 3D graphics APIs for best performance.

WebKit and Blink: Bridging the Gap Between the Kernel and the HTML5 Revolutio...Igalia
By Juan José Sánchez Penas.
WebKit is a web rendering engine (HTML, JavaScript, CSS) with a generic part (WebCore, JSEngine), and 'ports' for specific platforms that implement bits like rendering, networking or multimedia. In the WebKit community, companies&individuals cooperate to evolve a complex codebase. Given the popularity of HTML5 and web tech, WebKit is a key open source project. About 10 months ago, Google announced Blink, a fork of WebKit which attracted many former WebKit contributors. Igalia's Browsers team maintains the WebKitGTK+ port and is top contributor to WebCore, JSC, V8, other ports (EFL, Clutter, Qt), and Blink. The talk will review the past/present/future of WebKit/Blink, their dynamics and development process, , the relationship with the Linux ecosystem, and will give information about how to contribute to or use both projects. Not very technical. Valid both for developers & managers.

Modern infrastructure can sometimes look like a wedding cake with many different layers. It’s no surprise for seasoned users that Terraform was able to provision the most lower layers - compute - for a long while. Skipping a few layers in between, workload scheduler like Kubernetes is typically represented as the top one, exposing high-level APIs for scheduling and scaling pods, managing persistent volumes and restrictions & limits for scheduling.
Terraform 0.10 comes with Kubernetes provider which supports all stable (v1) Kubernetes resources from K8S 1.6.
In this talk you’ll hear about particular examples of where it’s useful to use Terraform for managing K8S resources, what benefits do you get compared to other solutions and demo gods permitting you’ll also see how to get from zero to an application running on K8S.

Managing modern infrastructure presents many different challenges. While the main operational aspects of infrastructure like durability, availability, scalability, security are very important, there’s also one aspect which should enable and support all the others - automation. Automation is a very abstract word, so the talk will briefly explain what benefits does IaC approach bring to the table and why configuration management (often driven by tools like Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Chef etc.) is just one of many layers in an automated production infrastructure. Then we will walk through the main design goals of an open source IaC tool (Terraform) that enables users to write, plan and apply changes of a production infrastructure in Google Cloud, and explain how to do it.

Building infrastructure with Terraform (Google)Radek Simko
Building your infrastructure as one-off thing by clicking in the UI of your chosen cloud provider may be easy, but that isn't scalable nor fun in long-term nor in team.
Terraform is a tool for building, changing, and versioning infrastructure safely and efficiently. Terraform can manage existing and popular service providers as well as custom in-house solutions.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
