Lennie visits Crooks in his room and they discuss their dreams of owning a farm together. Candy later joins them in Crooks' room. Curley's wife then encounters the three men and insults them by calling Crooks a racial slur, Candy dumb, and Lennie weak like a sheep. She does this because she is lonely and wants attention from the men. They all feel isolated on the farm due to their weaknesses or differences.
