Dominique showed Alicia how to find a book on the topic of adolescent peer pressure in the university library. First, they accessed the online catalog search through the university website to find that the book was located in the government documents section on the main floor. Dominique then explained that signage and maps near the elevator could help navigate to the specific aisle and call number where the book was shelved. In the end, Alicia thanked Dominique for demonstrating the multi-step process of utilizing library resources to successfully locate a desired book.
2. “Getting Started”
Alicia: “To start, how do you find a book and where do
you go to look it up?”
Dominique: “First, you have to go to the school’s
website, www.westga.edu, to get to the catalog search
to find out where your book is located in the library.”
Alicia: “When you go to the school’s website, where do
you click on the page to get to the catalog search?”
Dominique: “In the top left center of the page, hover
the mouse on the “Future Student” tab and go down to
“Library” in the middle section column and click on
it..”
3. “How to get to the catalog search”
Alicia: “When you’re on the ingram library website,
what’s the next step?”
Dominique: “You have to look for the magnifying glass
which means you’re wanting to search for something,
your book, which brings us to the catalog search.”
Alicia: “What is the catalog search and how does it
work?”
Dominique: “The catalog search is a resource for
students to help them narrow down which book they
would like by putting in a specific topic on what sort
of book you’re looking for.”
4. “How to use the catalog search”
Alicia: “Why do you believe the school created the
catalog search to find where books were located?”
Dominique: “I believe they created the search to make
it easier on the students to find their books in the
exact place given due to how large the library is with
3 different levels and to show the different variety of
books the library has.”
Alicia: “That’s a great idea. The topic I’m interested in
finding is on Peer Pressure for Adolescents and how do
I go by doing that?”
Dominique: “As stated before, when we type in the
topic, Peer Pressure, the different choices of books will
be given as shown and it shows it’s a book available
and you click on that choice.”
5. “How to locate the book chosen”
Alicia: “When we click on the choice, what do we do
next?”
Dominique: “The only step you have to do now is to
find out where the book is located. By looking at the
bottom center of the page, you will click on the tab,
“holdings”, at the top it will show what section the
book is located and what floor it is. I’ve highlighted
where it is which is the “Government Documents
Compact Shelving” on the main floor.”
Alicia: “How do you go about finding where the section
is located on the main floor?”
Dominique: “By looking at the monitors by the elevator
it will show you a guide map of each floor showing
where everything is located which is in front of the
library alongside of the glass room.”
6. “Getting the book”
Alicia: “How do we know what section to look in to locate
the book?
Dominique: With the reference number given to us by the
catalog search, we have to look for that number and go on
that specific aisle, H.E. 2.0.”
Alicia: “Now that we’re on the aisle, how do we go by
locating the “Adolescent Peer Pressure” book?”
Dominique: “Alongside each book, it’s a specific call number
that you have to look for, number 8202.”
Alicia: “Why do you think they placed this particular book
in the “government section”?”
Dominique: “I believe it’s in the government section because
in this society people are getting peer pressured every
single day whether it’s the media or your peers you’re
surrounded by and it’s been a difficult topic that has been
an issue for years.”
Alicia: “Thank you for your time and guiding me on how to
find a book in a library!”
Dominique: “No problem!”
